Anyone use it?

I'm thinking of virtualizing my box so I can flip through XP and Vista with remote ease for testing.

I have used the previous product to test our products, I like it a lot and it is not that difficult to set up. I am downloading it right now!

Microsoft is pretty picky about that. (translation my guess is it could run by changing one line of code).

Have windows 98 set up running inside of my laptop - runs the buggiest program I have seen in emulation (MOO II).

great..NOT!

10000 MS developers and cant even add support for their 'premium' os or simple usb support, whats wrong with this company?

sorry im over caffinated this morning and schools back in, and i just discover my shiny new laptop with windows home premium isn't supported on something that would be real useful to me. Anyone got this to run ok on vista premium? doesnt look like it worked too well for bwoogie *sigh*

I didn't get it working either... it fails on the installation where openSuse is supposed to create the swap partition.

TwoBro has had good luck so far, what about you Ken? I haven't installed it yet because I still need to find a copy of 98 and I need to buy a copy of Vista.

I thought I'd try vpc on vista home premium even though it did say it wasn't supported, it install fine. I installed minix (minix.org) successfully which is what i needed for class, so im happy.

It seems to run minix much faster than bochs. I havent tried ethernet.

Annoyances:
- vpc doesnt' support usb
- vpc doesnt provide support for opening the vhd(virtual hard drive) and vfd (virtual floppy drive) images on vista, this would made file xfer host->emu emu->host MUCH easier. you can use winimage(shareware) to do this (or a CD image to get date to the emu only). You can also use your floppy drive (if u have one) I don't, but I use a freeware tool called virtual floppy drive.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe what isn't supported is running a virtual Vista Home Premium. You can probably run VPC fine on VHP. If you want to run a virtual Vista, you need to buy the more expensive versions.

I haven't yet tried Virtual PC, but I use VMWare a LOT. It's not free, unfortunately - but it works great and even supports other non-MS operating systems.
