When did I say that? I love it! That's so funny, I'd have it in my sig if it wasn't my quote.

edit: nvm just found it. Funny pic David. What's next? Cat's shooting furballs?

A Master Chief helmet in the roughly 130 dollar edition of Halo 3--it is only big enough to hold DVDs (the hole in it is DVD box shaped) but, if gutted, can be placed on a cat----problem is most people spent a lot to get it and don't want to gut it.

you know i just don't get it completley ,if a game is Christian and it is violent then that kindo of seems to me like a paradox. that is like saying peacful war.

there are games that are not violent but are succesful,i guess this is one reason i am not much of a game player/developer.it is becoming harder and harder to find a nice game where you don't have to kill anybody/anything or shoot or stab or cut or use an explosive against anybody/anything.

is it impossible to have fun without being violent??

Keep in mind though, the bible itself has its fair share of violence; it's not like all of the stories are family friendly. That being said i don't want to start a whole argument/debate/conversation on that right now.

yes the BIBLE is full of violence, but the bible is against violence.

sometimes people(mostly atheists) take verses out of context and call the bible immoral and violent but that is wrong the whole message of the BIBLE is against violence.

p.s.: when i look at the title i kind of think "finally ,maybe this game might make me re-think of my opinion against the whole gaming industry, maybe there are developers out there really trying to make a game that i can play"

There's lots of developers on this CCN sight that are looking at alternatives to violence in video games. Charlie sites the success of the SIMS. And HanClinto always has some angle on fun games that don't need violence. And SamW3 with Finding Adina, and more developers too.

I have a differnt slant on violence. The Bible says that our fight is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual hosts of wickedness. This means that the Scriptures expect Christians to have a fighting spirit, but warn us not to fight physically. The Scriptures also warn against revenge, even harboring it in your heart. It says "do not rejoice when your enemies fall." Not all Christians fight in the spirit. Are all eyes? Are all hands? But we all work together as one body. So I would no more point fingers at devvers making non-violent games than violent games.

So that's a character trait that takes some mastering -- to be someone who righteously fights in the spiritual realm against unseen forces, but does not take joy when the human counter-parts fall. Such a person has to constantly fight against revenge in the heart. The flesh lusts to revenge. The book of James says that wars come from within. Revenge and envy (and more) are the seeds of all strife on the planet.

There are occassions where physical violence is not condemned by God. When someone threatens your life or breaks into your house, you have the right to choose to defend yourself. When the security of a nation is threatened, it has the right to choose to go to war. God does not condone these things -- he's not like "Yeah, kill 'em!" -- but he does not condemn them. Violence in these cases is not a sin. A vengeful heart is always a sin, though, and separating the action from the heart is difficult, it seems to me.

At the end of the world, God will pro-actively expediate the destruction of the earth and it's inhabitants. God will wreak violence on the earth, and on people. We should have the attitude of "I hope lots of people accept Jesus in those days." But we should not think "I hope the wicked escape God's judgement--I feel sorry for them," because that is in direct opposition to God's unstoppable Words, and we're liable to get mowed over in the process. Nor should we think, "I sure hope they get what's coming to them," because that is vengeance. So, it's a difficult thing to do, but with God all things are possible.

So, a Christian game can contain spiritual violence.

A game can also be Christian and contain physical violence, but the developer had better be a master of his heart through the power of Jesus, and had also better be a competent spiritual warrior-- a veritable decon in the "Church of Christian Gamers." The violence had best induce feelings of "I wish those dead people would have changed their ways." Some sort of Godly response must be awakened in the player. And the developer should expect an incredible amount of opposition and ridicule from non-Christians and Christians who do not know the Scriptures.

For me, it is.

I say this(and my previous statement) out of jest, but for the most part, I like games containg one form of combat or another.

I guess I can understand the plight of those who want a fun game without violence. Well, a non-children's game without violence. Not much outside puzzles.

And music games :-) Loving Rock Band at the moment

granted, been playing Warhawk and Uncharted (as well as Silent Hill on the PSP) so I guess my take on violence in games is leaked through that fact.

Violence, as long as it is ONE OF MANY tools to convey a story, is not sinful or wrong (I love it how a lot of people advocate real life violence such as armed conflicts or whatever but are squeemish towards fantasy violence--no matter your view on wars and the like you have to admit that is odd---and, yes, I do occasionally advocate real world violence either on a serious or joke level)

However, some games (Manhunt 2 anyone) only focus on Violence and, unfortunately, get WAY more press time than they deserve--from what I heard Manhunt 2 sucked royal---but then again Grand Theft Auto is overrated IMO---yeah it jump started Sandbox games but big deal honestly. the funnest stuff to do in GTA has absolutely nothing to do with the story, hookers or gangsters (for instance: take a RV to the top of the highest mountain, climb inside and roll all the way down the mountain--my friend and I did that over and over again one Halloween night and about died laughing!)
