iMac: Wireless issue after sleeping – ssquared

We have been having an issue for a long time on the iMac. Perhaps since the day we got it. After waking up from sleep, the computer will not automaticlly reconnect to the wireless router. The little Airport symbol in the upper right is grayed out. We need to go up to the Airport symbol and manually select the wireless router we want. Then things work.

Is there a way for airport to automatically connect when it wakes up? It's a simple step, but a little annoying. And doesn't seem like it should be this way.

I think my wife has already talked with Apple tech support and there was no resolution.

Well, no arguments, that can be annoying. I found a link that more or less says "some people have similar problems but theres no easy fix," other than not sleeping your computer. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1153702&tstart=0 I know the problem isn't an exact match to yours, but the replies from people basically say what i just did :/ . Hope this helps! Oh, and if you are running Mac OS 10.4.10 then things should be better, just not solved

Yeah I heard about that kind of problem but I heard it affected just Macbooks. What happens when you disable Bluetooth? (I'm not sure it will work as this is just a wild guess)

Thanks. Good stuff.

If I remember, I will try the Bluetooth idea tonight. It may already be turned off, but I will double check.

At least we are not the only ones. Sounds like a large problem. Our workaround is at least simple and we don't need to reboot like others have mentioned.

Nope. Bluetooth idea did not work. But thanks for the suggestion.

Oh well. We'll just live with it for now.
