The interview series resumes again, for a bit, with our favorite Finn. Jari is a cleaning man by by day (which if I'm not mistaken, isn't very long in Finland around this time of year), and a coder by night!

How did you find out about CCN?
I remember searching for Christian games using google and found one other
Christian site (game site) that linked to CCN.

Why did you join?
I wanted to post in few interesting threads about games and Christian views, sharing what Lord had done in my life regarding gaming and my view on my morals.

The morals of what?
I don't remember it all, but first there was the question of "what is good as entertainment?" and then there were questions of "where to draw the line?". In short, it was about not making anything that is morally questionable.

What kind of job do you have?
I clean one place at the mornings for few hours. It's enough income to live at home.

Do you enjoy it?
Yeah, it has it's good sides. It's good for keeping up fitness, and the cleaning machine is fun to drive.

How old are you? How long have you been working with computers?
I'm 22. I really started to work on computers when I was about 16.

Are you a coder? What IDE do you use?
Yes. I use VS studio express for C++, netbeans for the little java I code
and jEdit for everything else.

What languages do you know/program in?
C++ mainly and when needed Php, Java, Python, C#, and I learned them in that order.

Are you learning any new ones?
Python is useful, so I'm probably going to write more things in it, and
thereby learn it better.

What is it about the computer that interests you?
I like to listen to music and read Bible. I think the current song presentation software I've been using has potential for usage in churches and I would like to see that developed futher.

What kind of song presentation software do you use? Did you write it?
We have used PowerPoint at our church but would hope to be able to use
Dream Beam in the future.

What kind of music do you listen to while you work (if you listen to music while working)?
Sometimes I listen to different kinds of Christian artists, but lately I have also heard some worship midis. The ones I'm familiar with are quite nice.

What operating system(s) do you normally use? Why do you use them?
I use Windows XP mostly because it has good software, even free. I use Kubuntu as well, because I also want to support Linux users and use free Linux software.

What other operating systems do you semi-frequently use? Why do you use them?
I use XP more than Kubuntu, Kubuntu has some very good software and I use it a little less than XP.

What other things do you enjoy doing on a computer?
3D modeling is fun, I also use the GIMP to draw stuff. It's often fun, even though I'm not very good at either one.

Do you touch the graphics field of computing very often (such as modeling, or 2D art, etc)?
Quite occasionally, I need to draw or model some place holder graphics for my coding projects.

What 3D modelling program do you use? How did you become interested in modelling?
I use Blender. I guess I just had to start some modeling in order to make
a 3D game, because no one else was able (at the time) to make the models for me. So I have been modeling a bit ever since, and every time I need a model.

Do you prefer Email or Instant messaging when communicating with someone?
I'm ok with both but eventually I would like to chat (using instant
messenger) more, or at least to get known better by other people.

What kind of Email/Chat client do you use? What's it's name?
Miranda chat client. It has IRC and MSN support, as well as a few others.

Do you blog? Often?
No but I have tried to maintain project blog for Voice of His Word.

What are the specs of your home and/or work computers?
There's about a 2Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM on my computer. But it's getting old and I have considered and update to work with code faster and speed up other programs.

Do you have a game console? If so what is it and why did you buy it?
None at the moment that I use, but I have this old Sega in some closet... I had playstation too but I sold it when I switched to gaming on computers.

If you have a game console, what was your first?
The Sega.

What other non-computer hobbies do you have?
Nothing at the moment .

How would you describe your relationship with Christ?
Jesus is my Lord in whom I have the hope of everlasting life, even though feel sometimes that I am not able to fully submit my self to Him. He has redeemed me and shows His love amazingly, which keeps up my interest to learn more about God's will and to serve Him. Our God is an awesome God who does miracles, even in my heart, and I wish to be able to tell people more about God's love. I wish to grow to more full spiritual life.

How do you imagine a way that you could use your talents and experiences to serve Christ?
At the moment it seems that our church needs help in various computer
related things so it's good to be some use in that area.

What kind of geeky projects do you see yourself doing within the next couple of years?
I don't see my self doing much geeky stuff, but that depends on how you define geeky

By geeky I mean non-daily use. Do you see yourself working on a new application or cool game?
It's difficult to say, I could but don't probably have the time and there's probably better things to do than start working some project even the idea would be cool. But I want to bring these thoughts to God in prayer and see if there's anything worth pursuing.

Great interviews!!!

Joe, you've really gotten better with these. The way that you've shifted to becoming more interactive makes the interviews easier to read through, and I really like how it caters to the unique interesting points of each interviewee.

Well done, thanks for the great read!

Thanks for your continued passion in the interview process. I met Jari before CCN. He was kind enough to give some supporting words during a troublesome first release. He's a great example of godly wisdom that propels him far beyond his years. And everyone should know that his name is pronounced "Yari." It's great to know more about him through your interviews!

Neat interview.

JeTSpice, thanks for the pronunciation.

Jari, can you give some information on Darkening and VoHW and what the differences are? I went to your website which gives some detailed descriptions but a quick synopsis here will be helpful. Thanks.

Gladly! VoHW is a online playable adventure game in 3D first and third person views. And Darkening is supposed to be more edifying game about spiritual warfare and discovering salvation. Darkening is played in birds eye view by pointing and clicking to move and act.
