i think i heard of swithcfoot and kuteless but i don't think i actually heard them.

but other than that my favorite band is hillsong i like their worship music.

how many of you guys hear to hillsong worship music on worship time at your CHURCH?

i really like the lyrics and the music of the hillsong united worship band.

but other than that i have heard and to a certain extent seen that some bands tend to get worldly stuff into CHRISTIANITY and their music.
and that can be pretty deceptive so watch out!!!

popular doesn't mean right and right doesn't mean popular.

I really liked Skillet, but I haven't listened to them in like five years.

@spade, um.. i think hillsongs is definitely not rock. I do like a some of Darlene Zschech's lyrics. The one that always gets me emotional is "Made me glad".

Has anyone heard of V*Enna? They had such sweet melodies to their techno pop sound. I thought it was really cool. I still like to cruise to their songs "Sunshine and Rain" and "Where I Wanna Be". But I guess they've broken up.

1) Skillet
2) Decyfer Down (friends with their drummer, who also happens to be named Josh!)
3) RED
4) Day of Fire
5) Pillar
6) Thousand Foot Krutch (THROW UP UR RAWKFIST!!! I love that song! Just became a TFK fan a few days ago after my bro saw them perform and came home raving---I downloaded their 2 newest CDs off of iTunes)
7) MakeShift (they aren't around anymore---but they were good---I think their myspace is www.myspace.com/makeshiftak and their site was www.makeshiftak.com ---one of my old staffers at TK --and still a good buddy of mine--is the uncle of their drummer--who is also named Josh!)

I know they aren't rock, but any old RAZE fans here? I used to be rabid for them--got to see them perform right before they broke up---like a month before I was devistated when I read the news.

haha! wow. Didn't think anybody else knew about them.
I used to like them back when I was in Jr.High. probably look them up just for nostalgia, but I've since left that style of music. I've gone into less mainstream music( anything from norwegian gypsy rock to neo-opera ), with the exception of Rock.

I really don't listen to much christian music anymore. especially as of late, it's become dull and boring, imo. They all sound the same. You know, light drum bear, basic bass play, accoustic guitar strumming, etc.

I do still listen to bands like Project 86 and Demon Hunter.
will turn on a Switchfoot, reliant k or other bands every once in a while.

Ken, I pretty much only like the old Michael W. Smith too. I have the first few albums. My favorites are still his first two.

@Samw: Hillsongs has a band, United, which is a bit rockier than the Darlene led band. I think it's geared towards a younger crowd. I believe this is the band Spade was referring to.

Here are some of my faves:
Lothar Kosse: If you enjoy guitar rock like Joe Satriani, you will like Lothar Kosse. Some of his albums are just pure guitar rock. Others are praise and worship albums. He's German, though, so it's all imported stuff.

Karnataka: If you like progressive rock (old Genesis, old Yes, IQ, Marillion, etc.), they fit perfectly with the genre. I'm not actually sure whether or not they are Christian, but I first heard them on some streaming Christian radio and their lyrics seem to have Christian meanings behind them (others have mentioned similar things). Unfortunately, the original band is no longer but they have just recently reformed with a bunch of new members. I can't recommend them enough. They are one of my faves to listen to at work.

assuming you mean what i think you mean, i will say yes, this thread is for discussing favorite christian rap, hip-hop, and metal bands, as well as rock, pop, worship, and all the other genres, as long as they are christian bands.

i don't really listen to that type of music (i do listen to a bit of metal), but air1.com is a station that plays a bit of metal, like disciple and p.o.d., but mostly it just plays rock. another station, one jesus radio plays user-requested music, and stryper (christian metal band) is quite frequently requested. i hope this is helpful!

yes what i was refering to was hillsong united they are for youth and stuff and i think they are a Christian rock band.

check out their song called "all day" or "salvation is here" those are some really nice Christian songs and they are rock like,i was seeing a clip from that band called switchfoot and the songs name was awakening and to tell you the truth i didn't hear anything spiritual in the lyrics(myabe i didn't pay too much attention on the lyrics)and the video clip was more like one of those gothic like secular bands. i have no problem with Christian rock music but i don't think it's right that they try to adopt/assimilate some of the traditions/cultures/styles the secular bands use.

but then again i haven't seen/heard lots of the bands you guys listed.

i really recommend that you guys hear hillsong united their lyrics/song is more appealing to they youth but imho is a spiritual song.

switchfoot does not call itself a christian band, but the reason they are on my top christian artists list is because all of the members are christians.

quote:
About the song itself, singer/songwriter Jon Foreman said, "Perhaps to be truly reborn death is not optional. Here’s a firsthand story about new life, it always starts at the bottom."

so awakening is about our new life in christ i think. that's what i take that quote to mean. here are the lyrics to the song. you can read them and find meaning if you want or you can read them and not find meaning. i personally don't listen to switchfoot for the spiritual upliftingness or whatever, but more for their sound. there are still several songs still in every album that have spiritual meaning. their old albums had much more spiritual meaning in each song.
