does anyone know if rockbox works on ipod nano 2g? i read about it and i would like to use it if it works on my 'pod.

No. If you look closely at their website they specifically say the 2nd Gen Nano is not supported. I traded my 2nd gen nano in for a 1st gen just so that I could play video.

Oh, and installing Rockbox is simpler than restoring the iPod (ok, that might be an exageration. It is, however, just as simple). Basically, all you do is copy the Rockbox folder to the root of the iPod, download the bootloader (available for Windows, Mac, and Linux), run it, wait for it to finish (a few seconds on my machine) and then eject, reboot, and rock on!

Read the Rockbox manual if you have any questions. You should find answers there faster than I or most other people here can read reply to a post. If not get my attention through another thread or a PM and I'll be glad to help you out.
