SamW made an excellent comment on the Rock Cannon in D thread saying we should have a thread dedicated to listing and critiquing music that is created by the CCN users. I was thinking that this morning myself (really no joke) So post links to your music, sound effects, or noise here. MUSIC is an essential part to game proggraming AND to worshiping our Lord Jesus. So put up your best stuff and don't be afraid to put up stuff that might be in RAW stages, everybody started somewhere Here's my tune from the other post http://www.art.twobrotherssoftware.com/music/garlicricecake.mp3 |

I'm using this song in Bible Dave, so far I think it's my favorite of all the in-game songs I've put in to it. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. "We've assimilated Pooh." "Socialism works great... if there are no people involved." -- Pastor David Ginter, Union Church of Guatemala. |

@Ken - I really liked the ending! I love it when a song does a little extra somethin' at the end instead of fading out or just stoppin'! I thought the rythem guitar thing "bu-dup-bu-dup-buuu" was kinda funny in a weird hip-hop kinda way. I really LOVE the way you can whip out those lead licks too! Man, I wish we lived closer to each other so we could jam! |

i played my guitar over a vent channel once...it was fun but I think the biggest issue would be lag. |

hmm.. I think the title is appropriate, since the whole song seems lost. I can't hear a clear motive or chord pattern in the whole thing. Then it fades at the end to boot! Maybe that's what you were shooting for. You know where this would fit? Like to the credits of a movie(/game) where the loner(/hero) is walking into the sunset. The whole thing has this unresolved, cliff-hanger feel and while the quality of the song is great as usual, I personally wouldn't like listening to in on a CD since I like songs that resolve internally (tho, the ending doesn't necessarily have to). Just my thoughts.. God Bless! ------------------ |

Good topic. I just started seriously looking for sound fx for Darkening and putting them in game. First I took two whoosh samples from this site: http://www.therecordist.com/pages/downloads.html (Space Whoosh and Demonic Whoosh) And used audacity to change tempo or speed (I'm not sure which one is better) resulting these files: What do you think? I think there is disturbing echoing in the space whoosh. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] (Contact) - Truedisciple (mp3) |

um.. hmm.. are you, like, wanting a critique on these? because.. uh.. they are really bad sorry.. The instruments used are cool and all, but there is no rhythm or key or motif to be found. Nice tunes kenman the solid nut case one kinda creeps me out kinda like the Doom sound track on the super Nintendo did. Monks2 makes me think of a scene where different places in a abandoned or rundown town in the desert are being shown one by one. |

Ok, for my submission I dug back into my archives and came across the (very) rough recording that I made for the theme song for my Ithia game. It was recorded on our family keyboard with my cheap laptop sound card and a line-in cable :P Anyhoo, here's the link, it's still open for criticism. I'm going to college this fall and hopefully I'll be able to find some connections to get it re-recorded in a proper fashion. http://pilgrimsjourney.bluegillweb.com/music/ithia_theme1.mp3 ------------------ |

The chord progession is pretty good. I think you would do better on a better key system, and better recording. Of course you need some slamming guitar in there too. . . j/k

Composition: Production/Performance: Recommendations: 1. Keep with the four chord rolling progressions. At some point you can do the other out-of-structure modulations after monotony is about to set in. Then they will be a welcome break. But you could, after the break, return to the structure of the song. Kind of like a verse-chorus-verse thing. 2. Add more stereo depth and reverb. Also, instrumental embellishments, like bells of flutes *might* add more depth. All in all, I like the haunting chords and slow movements. Picturesque of a dark forest on a moonlit night. Keep up the good work. God Bless! ------------------ [This message has been edited by samw3 (edited July 15, 2007).] |

Kenman: Actually, for the final soundtrack I was considering meshing guitar in with more traditional fantasy type instrumentation. I think it would be interesting, though it would take someone with more than my very limited knowledge of electric guitar and the mechanics of music to make it work. Something about a flute and wind instruments meshed with soaring guitar excites me though, and the guitar is just a wonderfully diverse instrument. Samw: I agree with what you said about the first eight chords, they're certainly my favorite part of the song. Right now my resources are very (VERY) limited so I probably won't be able to do a decent rewrite any time soon, but I want to keep the chord progression and rerecord it some time. I was toying with using Reason, but I don't have a MIDI capable computer right now and doing it by hand is very cumbersome. Really this was just a basic format, and the recording did wash out halfway through just because the equipment was bad. I'll probably end up using the tone as a basic format, then build the frame of my whole soundtrack on the chord progression or at least the idea of the melody (slow, rolling, haunting and fading moonlight). Some day I'll do it, but until then P.S. Kenman, your monks2 mp3 was brilliant I though, perfect blend of more classical sounds with guitar riffs. I very much enjoyed it. ------------------ |

Woah. I totally was not expecting a shuffle. I was on the epic-battle-of-the-ages wavelength. This kinda had more of a shooting-pool-in-a-bar feel for me. However, after the initial shock wore off, I rather enjoyed it. Nice guitar work as always. God Bless! ------------------ |

Thanks , I'm only charging what I need to. I put 21 songs on the CD so that everyone would feel like they get are getting their money's worth. If you look at what I would get if I sold this CD on I tunes, I get a little under $5.00 for a complete CD, so here I do just about the same. It's an ambient tune. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=670910&songID=5430752 The story behind it is that I saw one of Moira's drawings on ccgr, and a song started to form in my mind. Ken, another nice batch of tunes. Your song names can be quite funny. Do you have fun naming them? I thought of a recording I did way back several years ago which I thought some of you may enjoy, but I don't have any hosting space. I'm going to see what I can do about getting it up somewhere. |

Hey S2, .ning will host the files, so you can do that deal The other thing you can do, especially if you want others to share it is post it over at last.fm www.last.fm It is a cool site and people can download a player and you can actually see who is listening to your stuff. Either way, uploading your stuff shouldn't cost ya. I struggle with naming tunes, that's a huge problem of mine. . They are funny because I have no song naming capabilities ------------------ If you ain't in the forums, you in the againstums :) |

OK. I finally got my Google stuff all signed up and ready. Here is something I did many years ago (1992) while at my first job. I thought some here may enjoy it. Some of you may have used the product. It's called MathType, or the Equation Editor which is built directly into Word. Anyway, I was set to head off to MacWorld to work in the product booth and decided to write this little piece to blast during the show. Unforutantely, I got a rather high temperature (104 degrees) which meant I did not get all of the sound bites I had wanted to record. That's why you will hear the same ones so many times. But I finished this with a high temp and got it done in time for the show. There is one spot where one sample is too loud, but I just left it that way. Expressionst, mentioned at the end, was our competitor. That will help you understand the stated line. This is in WMA. [This message has been edited by ssquared (edited September 13, 2007).] |
