Welcome, LW!

I really like a lot of the 3d modeling that you've done, and I'm glad to see you join us here at CCN.

Questions? no not off hand, I answered about 10 modelling questions elsewhere this afternoon, however
I mean general modelling topics, such as you may find in the art etc forum here. It's too slow of a forum for my liking

I found this site through the BB demo, I think Krylar helped it get lots of promotion through Blitz.

Hiya.

I still consider myself reasonably new to he industry. been doing it for 4-5 years now.
My biggest model would have to be the Swamp Creature off the Kong Ext Edition.

Based off a sculpt from the workshop designers.

Done other random stuff

Hmm cant rember exactly off hand. The subD cage probably 30-40k . The high res for extracted displacements 10Million+

Here I put in a plug for www.mudbox3d.com
Created by 3 friends of mine. Amazing tool for sculpting hires detail very fast. Great for generating your displacement or normal maps etc.

Thanks...tho I cant really take all the credit.

The main design credits are Weta Workshop who make amazing sculpts. I modeled it based off that. And modified as needed to work as a animatable CG creature. Creature TDs, Animation TDs, Texture TDs, Shader Writers all contributed to bring the model to life...so to speak.

Wow! I had no idea "I, Robot" was Weta Digital. Amazingly, that's actually one of my favorite movies.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thats some pretty nifty stuff there LW. Now i can hire you to work for free on a game that won't make any money </badJoke>

Do you have any experience with the shaders as well? or do you generally just leave that up to other guys?

I don't think most people working on such projects earn ridiculous amounts of money, besides there are things which weight more than money.

That's gold right? (j/k) Not all that is gold glitters - look for things above not things on earth.
Good thought

Sweet stuff! Welcome to CCN. I didn't know there was an extended version of King Kong. I'm really impressed to see a believer working with WETA.

Dunno much about the hardware, but WETA, DreamWorks and some other studios that are big into CGI use Linux rendering farms.

Sounds pretty close to me..
Obviously I cant talk about internal stuff due to NDA.

However, personally. I do almost everything 3d with Maya. Mudbox is great for the detailed stuff and extDsp maps. I havent done much textuirng myself, except for randomly using photoshop and a few 3d paint packages (like body paint).

Can you tell us your impressions of what working with PJ is really like? Would such a thing be "PJ Approved"?

Never Forget to Pray!

"...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. Pray for prayer---pray till you can pray; pray to be helped to pray, and give not up praying because you cannot pray, for it is when you think you cannot pray that you are most praying. Sometimes when you have no sort of comfort in your supplications, it is then that your heart---all broken and cast down---is really wrestling and truly prevailing with the Most High."
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, from the pamphlet, "Effective Prayer"

HAHA..I cant really say anything here.
But "PJ approved" is a classic line. (I have it on a t-shirt even). I think you see it stamped on the box art for Kong production diaries too.
Weta is a great place to work. The artists here are incredibly talented at their respective fields.
