Reading through the D&D reply thread has made me curious..

To those who play D&D, what kind of campaigns have you played in? What kind of characters? What have you found to be a cool interaction, combo, race+class mix?

Currently I'm DMing a bit of a Pirate campaign. Amusing mix of characters too...

My fiance is playing a human Pirate named Pinkbeard.
One guy is playing a Rogue (who he's going to build into a ninja-style rogue. Pirate AND Ninjas)
One guy is a human Spartan (home-brew class, inspired by 300)
Last guy is a human sorceror.

The general campaign is going to wind up combatting a group called the cult of Ordered Chaos. They believe that Law and Chaos are not diametrically opposed, but are actually one and the same. So they seek to alter reality into a state of ordered chaos.

The first 'dungeon' was journeying into a temple who had acquired illegal loot. Being that the players are Good/Neutral (mostly Neutral), it was a go in, get the loot, return it to owners (keeping a small payment for themselves of course)

In the temple, the sorceror found a stick called the Rod of Ordered Chaos. The Rogue went to it first and DIDNT check for traps (having checked every single door, chest, sack and pot up to here). Needless to say a half-dozen arrows ended up in his chest.

anyway this Rod, I created. I have the rules for it in a Word document, but in essence it's a D100. It casts a random spell, of a random level, of a random list. It also uses Psionics and Epic spells. A spellcraft check (DC 15 + level of spell cast) will allow them to work out what spell it is, and thus know where to point it!

Later rolls (80+) do more zany things like double the wielders money, give the wielder a free feat.

Roll 01: Big white Marshmallow foot steps on a target
Roll 100: ULTIMA - 1000D6 damage in a 20ft blast. (Yep we're all Final Fantasy fans)

I've played in a fairly wide variety of campaigns. Most have probably been your traditional hack and slash with lots of dungeon crawling.

One guy who frequently runs our games usually involves a little more politics and intrigue.

I was in one once by another friend that was almost enitrely political, based on ancient greek city states. That one didn't go so well mainly because only two of the players, me and one other guy, take leadership roles, or have any interest in anything other than hack n' slash. So the rest of the party ended up never paying attention.

One of my favorite campaigns was one I ran in which the party was basicly like a special forces group. They were all hired on by a secret government ministry out of Waterdeep (it was forgotten realms campaign). They were first involved in a bunch of politics in the city because another secret organization was trying to find out whot he Lords of waterdeep were and assasinate them to effect a coup.
That part of the campaign involved some mystery aspects and some crime scene investigation, as well as political intrigue.

After they had completed the initial part of the campaign they were sent on a mission to an ancient lost city kind of place. They were originally supposed to be like the initial ground team and set up a foothold to receive reinforcments. The place they got sent to was basicly like a hidden valley which was completely full of tombs and such and over run with every kind of undead imaginable.
The only safe place was an ancient abandoned church which was still sacred ground so the undead didn't go there. In the church there was a hidden library that had 100 different rooms all organized like a huge maze. That was one of my favorite creations. I had tricks built into it that guarenteed that anyone who went in without knowing the place would get lost in it for hours.

It had lots of cool puzzles and rewards etc though.

The current one I'm most excited about is an Epic campaign a friend (and co-worker) is running. We get 20 lvls... I took a Sun Giant as a race (with a +4 Level Adjustment, +26 str and many other great stats) and he's letting us replace the Hit Die with class levels (instead of forcing the characters Hit Die on us).

I'm going to be a Dragonflesh Half-Golem as well (gives me wings and a fly speed of 120ft).

The main class I'm taking is Warblade and the main PrC (Prestige Class) I'm taking is Bloodstorm Blade (both from the Tome of Battle). This basically makes me a fighter (though with more hit points) and lots of combat maneuvers and stances... the Bloodstorm Blade allows me to use melee weapons as thrown ranged weapons and they can either come back to me immeditiately (allowing me to make a full attack with one weapon) or ricochet off of enemies into other enemies.

Thought it would be a fun concept to be a good melee fighter as well as hurling (gargantuan size) swords at enemies.

I almost always play humans or elves. I quite frequently play rogue/fighter combo's. I like having a mix of decent combat skills with good utility skills as well.

I usually try for high charisma character too simply for the role play aspect that I like the interactions with npc's etc. I hate playing stupid, or clumsy characters.

From the last campaign I played I have a level 6 half-dragon/human fighter level 10 Emberkin (homebrew. Think Fighter with DR and immunity to fire, firey and firey burst weapons). So overall I'm a level 20 character.

I am absolutely untouchable. My AC is in the 50s, Full Plate armour, Bracers of Armour, Natural Armour, Rings of Protection, Helms and boots of haste. Nothing can touch me.

Damage output is sick, I have 5 attacks. 3 from multiattack (monster manual) thats 2 claws and a bite, 1 extra attack from fighter and 1 attack from boots of haste.

If everything hits, that's over 100 points of damage.

I played a pirate once. I started out as "Swashbuckler" class in Complete Warrior and then prestiged into Dread Pirate in Complete Adventurer I played with a few other folks, but I was the "lead" of the party because of my awesomeness. I dual wielded rapiers, one fire one ice. "Dread Pirate Tremaine" I had a crazy Leadership bonus score that allowed me to have 110 level 1 followers in addition to higher level followers. The quest eventually progressed to air ships and whereby the DM introduced firearms and such.

Sounds rather like how my campaign is headed... lead character is swashbuckler going into Drear Pirate (the good one of course), then up to airships...
