It seems someone has sicced Cyveillance on my web site. More information can be found by reading blogsey. It would be my advice to do everything you can to block this cyber-espionage group from your servers.

Never Forget to Pray!

"...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. Pray for prayer---pray till you can pray; pray to be helped to pray, and give not up praying because you cannot pray, for it is when you think you cannot pray that you are most praying. Sometimes when you have no sort of comfort in your supplications, it is then that your heart---all broken and cast down---is really wrestling and truly prevailing with the Most High."
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, from the pamphlet, "Effective Prayer"

cy...whatever their name is sounds like a pain in the hind quarters. i wouldn't label them and the cia as terrorists though. that guy(whoever wrote that site) sounds like a conspiracy theorist.

If you want to limit downloads to your site, there are two thoughts. I went through a similar incident several years back when a software of mine was pirated, but only the patch was posted, so tens of thousands of downloads at 8 MB a day were happening. Least effective is to block and IP. Most effective is to do a verified email send

such as

Request download ---> Email to user ---> link created to temproary page to download product ---> Download temporary pages vacated every 24 hours through cron job.

Therefore if you get a plethora of requests there will ALWAYS be a valid email on the other end. less effective would be to pull the headers from the request page and block MSN. One thing to know, MSN might actually be downloading your content. IF it really is MSN and you exclude them in your robots.txt file, it will stop. If it is a hoaxer posing as MSN, they will ignore your robots.txt file.

It's not so much that I mind the downloads (I might if they get close to my bandwidth limit; besides, maybe they'll listen and learn something), it's just the idea that someone might be investigating me and doesn't have the courage to come to me with their questions. They'd rather use skulduggery and ambush than honesty and forthrightness. There are two IPs involved, the second one has been blocked; the first, when researched, did come back as owned by Microsoft. Blocking that one might be kind of like shooting yourself in the foot, really. This all began almost as soon as I made my Chats available in OGG-Vorbis format. That is all they've been downloading (over and over and over, no less): Chats in OGG format. They will eventually find that my Chats are my own creation. Whether or not the Chats' content turns them to the LORD is not up to me, but we can pray that it will; that there will be much fruit from this situation. If I am to be a "Steven" in this situation, then let me react as did he; and let the "Paul" be just as mighty in the faith as the Scripture-writer himself. Those Chats would certainly not be pleasing to one who is not of the called of the LORD, but they might just be the weapon of love to pierce the armor of one who is. Therefore pray.

I have received the data for the first two days of May, and in two days, May is already number three on the downloads list, and is over 400 hits per day, when for the last 10 months I had been averaging around 100 per day. In order to hit my bandwidth limit in a month, the downloads would need to average over 1.6 gigabytes per day for that month. So far the all time high download in one day hasn't even been half that, so it's not about the bandwidth. Everything I offer on my site I offer without intent of being paid, so I'm not being pirated. Perhaps they'll tire of the game and go away; I would prefer that there be fruit from this. Therefore pray.

Well, it doesn't seem to be due to the religious nature of those files, I guess.

Btw TallBill, your thread about the dog can't be replied to due to a ' mark in the title, I think.

400 hits a day is probably normal, most likely low normal for bots. If you have downloads, the bots will download them to see if they change at all. It's all in how they are programmed. Just so you can compare, our site, which is PR4 by google, gets well over 100,000 bot hits per month, mostly Google, and secondarily MSN. As I am looking January had well over 200,000 bot hits to capture our page. Actually the worst bot for sucking up bandwidth is yahoo, they seem to have a glitch in their bot program. I have seen their bot download the same 5MB file sequentialy over 10 times.

As far as someone spying on your site, it's going to happen whether you like it or not, and there isn't really anything you can do except make your site exclusive and password protected.

Laz,

Zookey has made a reply thread.

Ken,

Which is not what I want to do. Guess I'll just need one of two things: Valium or Grace. Guess which?
