Hello everyone.

My name is Andy and I just want to say hi. Im new to programing and am starting out with Javascript for webdesign. But my ultimate goal is to learn C++ and work on some good clean video games.

Hi Andy! Welcome to CCN.
It's nice to see that you want to make clean video games. I'm also looking forward to see your web site.

Hello! Welcome to CCN. Glad to see you're interested in programming!

Hey Andy! Welcome to CCN! We're very glad to have you here.

This is a pretty good place for growing in programming as well as having some healthy Christian discussion. It's not just about game development on here, and not all the people here are programmers (though most are). I'm really happy to see that you found us here. We hope that you feel welcome -- at first blush, it seems like you'll fit right in.

In Christ,

Welcome Andy! Enjoy your time here.

How's Maine this time of year? I've never made it to the Northeast around Maine, but would love to get there someday.

Hi Andy,

The game industry NEEDS you!
They might not think they need you, but they do.

Because there is already too much filth in the industry right now.

So, your mission is to make something so entertaining, clean and good, that it will blow their products right out the window.

It is possible.

Hello Andy,

and RA - do you think violence is part of the game industry's "filth", btw?

Hi Lazarus,

Sure, using violence is a part of that filth and so is using sex.
We have to try to find other ways to entertain them maybe?

It can only help.

Welcome Andy. Clean games can be extremely fun. Too bad "everyone else" doesn't think so.

actually he said Javascript... which is not Java. From what I could tell they just used the word 'Java' to boost its popularity...

It was originally called LiveScript i believe but Sun joined forces and it was renamed to JavaScript (then came the inevitable MS JScript).
ANYWAYS, if you can see yourself doing a lot of programming in the future then i'd say go with C++. Basically that will allow you to code in most other languages with an easier learning curve. However if you just want to move a few pixels around a screen on saturday nights i'd suggest maybe another language...

what i meant to say was, when you have other languages in your head, and you try to learn C++, C++ is confusing because you still have other languages in your head and you think "WHAT?! WHY DO YOU DO IT THIS WAY IN C++!?!?". Anyways, for me.

That's for sure. I learned BASIC. The thought of functions running independantly with no control over when they are executed is very disturbing to me. But good luck with whatever you decide, Andy.
