The story is here: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070403/D8O9CDUG0.html I don't use Windows at home, so I'm not terribly worried about the exploits, but those of you who do use Windows, might want to get on the ball and install. ;-) ------------------ "...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. Pray for prayer---pray till you can pray; pray to be helped to pray, and give not up praying because you cannot pray, for it is when you think you cannot pray that you are most praying. Sometimes when you have no sort of comfort in your supplications, it is then that your heart---all broken and cast down---is really wrestling and truly prevailing with the Most High." |

Yeah, i generally ignore that little yellow shield on the system tray. Updating means closing my firefox window (all 21 tabs in it). ------------------ |

For some reason I remember hearing about a .ani file vulnerability a year or two ago. Well if Vista is supposed to be secure, and MS released an emergency patch. EDIT: if you want to be really really really secure use OpenBSD. If you want to be really really secure use Linux. If you want to be really secure use Mac OSX, and if you just want to be secure, use Vista Because I don't run windows any more except for games I won't apply this patch (I'm still running stock XP SP2 security, I never updated). ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. has anyone heard the saying "security is an illusion". i don't have either an antivirus or anti-spyware. i just use process explorer to kill anything i find suscpicious. ------------------ Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. |

Manual process extermination works if you're lucky, and only for certain types of intrusions. For example, a smart person would make his/her malicious process used by a vital OS process so users will get an access denied error. ------------------ |

I installed a hacked copy of Symantec AV one time... and spent 3 hours manually uninstalling it (manually means i had to clean the registry by hand) ------------------ |

There's another free (closed source) antivirus called "avast!" (www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html). It's free (you have to sign up for it, which is also free). I'm pretty sure there's a linux version too. |
