You are encouraged to reuse code, and tools, The theme will read something like (but it will not be) "Typing Tutor - letters appear on the screen and the user has to type them" We are talking about a total of $100.00 in prizes (cash) plus what ever we can get sponsers to throu in). Whoa, interesting. I think I'd be up for participating/helping in this. 2 hours eh? Sounds intruiging. --clint |

Hmm... sounds interesting, however with the theme already known, what's to stop someone from starting now? In relation to 'reuse code' to what extent? Should this just be limited to a library? And one which isn't specific to the topic? As in someone couldn't just write a Typing Library and then use that for the competition. One thought would be that existing code/tools that will be used in the comp be brought forward to the judges, ahead of time. Or at least a list of the libraries/tools/code. I wouldn't mind helping out, possibly even enter... ------------------ |

Hmm.. sounds like something I might want to enter. Not to win, of course. |

quote: The theme is not known it will be picked from a list about 1/2 hour before the competition- that was one that we had on the list and dropped to use as an example. As far as resuse of code. Techincally anything goes but what do you expect with a 2 hour competition |

so you'll know if someone just submits something they've made previously because it's this advanced 80 hour RPG that they couldn't have made in 2 hours? Are all the topics related to game style/genre or game content? If you're choosing a game style/genre I think it would be better than content. Your example of a typing game is a good example, only 2 or 3 people entering may have written a typing game before but if you say it must contain scriptures the majority of CCNers would have tons of stuff to enter without having to code anything in the 2 hours. Also, what's the date and estimated time of the competition? (so I can make sure I'm off work that day...hee hee) Jeremy [This message has been edited by mastallama (edited March 18, 2007).] |

Is this language specific? |

well ok... just trying to provide some feedback... from the sounds of it, it seemed like it was based on a typing program.. my bad..
quote: I just took it as though it was 'something like' rather then 'a random one from a list'... thanks for clearing it up... Well I'll prep my libraries currently revamping an old project, and could reuse all the C++ networking/win32 app code ------------------ |

quote: May 5th is the date that we have picked. There will be a website up and coming very quickly. We want to set everything up as best as we can. In 2 hours it will probably be impossible to change enough of a large game to make it fit with the subject. [This message has been edited by kenman (edited March 18, 2007).] |

quote: Any language that you can use that can produce an executable on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux (mandrvia 2006) or Pocket PC. What will make this competition different is that code that you write for the competition will NOT become open source. Only the judges will review the code. The general public will not. This will promote more competitors. We are working hard on rules prizes. Anyone wanting to contribute prizes? |

i will donate one hug to the winner of the contest, but no deliveries EDIT: after checking the site out... i'm actually thinking of entering.... it seems like fun and its on a saturday so i could actually do it EDIT-EDIT: WAIT.... theres a bit of a mixup on the base art rules. on the scoring page it says 100x100pixels and on the rules page it's 256x256...did i miss something? You are right. Base art can be 256 x 256. This rule may be revised. What We want is someone to reuse code, not make a load of art. This will be cleared up shortly. |

any thing that creates an executible is cool. Art rules revised due to overwhelming evidence that no one understands this. |
