Who is coming?

I must say, it's one of the most exciting events of the year in the Christian gaming area. I got to meet alot of great people last year, and from that have kept in contact. Then it really makes you want to go back again and meet great people like Tim Emmerich, Clint Harran, Peter Churness, Jeff (JetSpice), Scott Wong, Simon, Brethren crew, Left Behind crew, umm I forgot their names but those awesome people who were next to us last year, Pilgrim's Progress people , VoHW people (they're cool). Didn't get a chance to meet White Knight Games peeps, and if I got the chance to ever meet the great Mackenzie Ponech or Patrick that'd be cool too. Or people like Charlie, he's rocking and all those awesome people I forgot

I wont be able to go this year But Brandon Lewis will go in my spot, wont you Brandon?

btw Clint^H^H^H^H^HAxys really rocks!

I really like this statement on CGDC.org about the conference:

"The Christian Game Developers Conference is the only gathering with the purpose of encouraging game developers, in both software and traditional mediums, to apply Christian principles to their industry. Some developers are involved in creating games made specifically to glorify God. Others work for secular companies and are Godly influences at their place of employment. But wherever they are, they need encouragement to stand up for morality and truth in an industry that can often be fighting these ideals - and the CGDC is a great place to get that encouragement."

Well I was planning on going this year (as I haven't been before). But work's picking up and I'd be having my 21st Birthday in the US... just a couple thousand kilometers away from friends and family :S

Sad to hear that you can't go David. You really seem to be one of the main people who should actually be there... Maybe next year? We need to plan our flights so we can have an awesome time on the plane

Should be good fun and great inspiration for everyone (including those who don't go).

I'm glad to see that the details were finally posted. I'm hoping to make it to this year's conference. I think I'm in a position now that would allow me to benefit from the workshops of the conference.

Yay CGDC 2007!

Jennifer and I are planning on being there again this year. Hopefully we'll be able to swing it, we'd really love to go.

Steve, I hadn't noticed that statement before -- that's a really cool purpose statement for the conference.

--clint

Edit: Oh btw David, you mentioned "VoHW people" -- the only VoHW person is Jari, and he hasn't yet made it to the conference. Did you mean the Visions people?

You did not meet me last year, as I was not there last year. I was the year before, however, and I met Peter Churness at that time.

Too bad you won't make it this year.

Lord willing, I'll be there.

Let me see if I can help -
Left Behind - Troy, Robilyn, Jeff, Sam, Dereck, Kevin, Mike & Annette
Pilgrim's Progress - Gerry and Devin Moore
White Knight probably won't be there - Laurence and Mitchell
Xrucifix - I think they said they are doubtful on showing - Pat & Mack
Heaven's Blessing Tiny Zoo - Laurene should be there again.
plus so many more!

If any of you can get there, we can probably get your on-side fees covered. And possibly dorm room charges as well.

No matter if you are attending - please be praying mightily for the conference and for ALL the developers out there.

Hopefully you'll be able to make it, Tim. It would be good to see you again. I tried emailing you about the conference in hopes of find out some details (which I've found out since). Are you in charge of it this year?

I'll be praying for the conference and developers. God bless!

i might be able to make it to the 2010 conference . i wouldn't consider myself a game developer, and i don't intend on doing it for a living, but i'd love to to one of the conferences. lots and lots of Christian geeks gathered together spending time in fellowship and talking about God and game development...yep...it'd be great.

Wow, I was just doing some calculating with my wife. It would cost me around $660 in gas to drive (+ food and drinks and at least 1 night stay for the 34 hour drive) or just under $400 for me to fly round-trip! It would be awesome to make it out there this year, I joined this site right after the CGDC in '05 and couldn't make it out to the one in '06. Maybe this year can be different! I'll have a semi-playable-demo of my ORPG by then, at least a few zones and quests. Would I be able to showcase it there too or just attend?

EDIT: i got married in 05...not sure what was goin' on last year...

Hey, its not such a long drive for me. I may just come by to pretend I still try to make games. It would be cool to match faces with internet people.

Hey Jeremy! It would be great to see you at the CGDC this year.

You would be able to showcase it -- if you request ahead of time, each attendee is given I think at least half a table of showcase space (they're *really* flexible with all of this) to set up whatever of their products that they want to demonstrate at no extra cost. I love hanging out in the showcase area just meeting people and talking about stuff and playtesting games, it's loads of fun.

Jeremy, is your wife thinking about coming? Even though my wife isn't much of a programmer (though she's dabbling in it from time to time), she still enjoys going there for the friends, and for the non-techy seminar tracks (such as writing stories for games, etc).

Crazyish, it would be great to see you there as well! You don't have to be a developer to attend, even though that's largely what the meetings are targeted at. So much of it is just meeting people and building up the Christians in the game development community.

--clint

P.S. Oh yeah, I forgot to say -- David, I just edited your post to say that Axys rocked -- Lazarus was right. Sorry that the joke didn't go over quite as well as I hoped, but Laz got it right and did a good explanation.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa (bunnies from Rayman Raving Rabbids)....using super moderator powers to say Axys rocks hmmm...So does that mean you're not going to allow me to say that Clint is the greatest human being to ever exist on the entire planet anymore?

I'm not sure if she'd be interested in coming. She doesn't really care much about game design, she just wants to play 'em...hee hee. I'll talk to her about it though.

No no, I learned my lesson. No more abuse of moderator powers.

So in response to your comment, I have a better answer.

What's the point in the direct route? There's too much to see to be content with just a direct point-a to point-b route with no time for exploration and enjoyment of a locale.

Haha. Good one, HanClinto.

I wonder when registration information will hit the CGDC website. I know that it's going "to be held July 19th - 21st, 2007 at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon." I suppose that's still a ways off, however, when taking into consideration that it's still March.

I'm pretty sure there's a deferred payment plan. There's also the option of moving somewhere that allows polygamy and double your birth rate. I still don't think that will get you to a second-born before this year's CGDC though, so the deferred payment plan is probably your best bet.

[/spamming the topic]

I'm looking forward to this year's CGDC. I really think that I can learn a lot to help me get into the industry and, in time, make a difference in the lives of others with my programming. How much better can it get than that? As my signature once said: If I enjoy gaming, and God can be pleased by my game development, then why on earth wouldn't I want to make games? CGDC is a launchpad to that, I think.

I just moved about 2 years ago, so I'm pretty dissapointed, I used to live in Medford. Now I live in FW, about a 5+ day trip. Not coming unfortunetly, nor do I have the transportation, or money. (I'm saving up for $38, so I doubt I"ll reach $400+ anytime soon.

I started listening to this christian-rock band called Hyperstatic Union recently and theres these two smokin' songs i love now (Overhead and Child of His Grace). Anyways, i went to their website and guess where they are.... Portland, Oregon! crazy!

anyways, also i though i'd share a line or two of the lyrics :
"I am spared by mercy; a child of his grace
received into his favour; despite my selfish ways"

Anyways, we now return to "CGDC 07"

Yeah, they released their first "official" cd it looks like. I'd about to click "purchase" on their site . And of course i'll need a sticker of their logo. I haven't heard TOO many of their songs yet but so far they each take on somewhat of a different style. Child of Mercy starts off like a group called Weezer (a little bit). Anyways, they're awesome so far
[/TANGENT]

EDIT: AWWWWWWW!!!! it says they don't accept payments from non-US paypal accounts!! I'll have to see if i can pick it up at the christian bookstore this weekend. But that means i'll be out on the sticker *tear*

Okay, at the risk of getting too much input - here is the rough draft for the PR for this year's conference - need to get it out soon, so reply and make suggestions - or offer up a quote if you have been.

Thx,
Tim

Date Set For 2007
Christian Game Developers Conference

This interactive entertainment field prepares for its sixth conference

PORTLAND, OREGON (11 April 2007) – The Christian Game Developers Conference (http://www.cgdc.org) announces their sixth annual conference and expo, to be held in Portland, Oregon, on July 19-21.

“Each year our industry gets more exciting” says conference organizer Tim Emmerich of GraceWorks Interactive (http://www.GraceWorksInteractive.com). “There have been several new computer/videogame, card and board games since last year.”

Returning sponsors of the expo include Micro Forté and Big World hosting the Saturday Dinner and Fellowship and GarageGames providing licenses to their Torque Gaming Engine. Other returning sponsors include Dallas Audio Post, GarageGames, Left Behind Games, Inspired Idea, VIA Technologies, and GraceWorks Interactive.

< Another quote from someone that attended in the past? >

The format will follow past year’s conference. Specifically, the 2007 Christian Game Developers Conference will continue to feature discussion sessions but will also include more hands-on workshops and exhibit areas. Also, a few speeches will be made. But most importantly, all attendees will be encouraged.

At this year's expo, it is anticipated that project announcements will be made.

The expo’s mission is to get everyone together for encouragement, leverage and to pray for our efforts.

Registration will be open soon and information, including the full roster of speakers and events as well as travel and lodging options, is available online at http://www.cgdc.org .

Company Info – CGDC is hosted under the GameACE umbrella.

Hey Tim! Thanks for doing this!

I was curious as to what else needs helped out on in specific, and not sure how I can volunteer right now. I looked on the GameACE website, but not much really jumped out at me, but perhaps I should just look again.

As far as edits on the press release:

quote:

"Torque Gaming Engine" should be "Torque Game Engine", or perhaps (with the rise of Torque Game Builder, it should be listed as "Torque game engines" in order to encompass all 3. You also have GarageGames listed twice (once in the first sentence, and once again in the "Other returning sponsors include" list.

So to make it easier, lemme' make the edits so you can just copy/paste.

quote:

GarageGames is providing licenses to their popular Torque game engines, while other returning sponsors include Dallas Audio Post, GarageGames, Left Behind Games, Inspired Idea, VIA Technologies, and GraceWorks Interactive.

Is John De Margheriti okay with us using Micro Forté's name so front-and-center?

This part feels just a little disjointed. Perhaps something like:

I dunno' though, I couldn't get it all to feel right either. The "all attendees will be encouraged" part almost feels like we're out there to give warm fuzzies without any constructive criticism. I'll see if Jennifer has any time to look it over.

All told though, what you've got is good enough for release -- the important thing is that people just hear about that the conference exists, we don't need to worry *too* much about the exact wording of how we present ourselves.

Thanks again, Tim! You rock.

Please add "And people will shake hands, sometimes, too."

__________________________
I'm making myself laugh pretty hard. I must be tired. Tim, my wife and I will be out of the country for the summer. If we can make it in time for the conference, I'll contact you immediately. Please know that you have my prayers and support.

To all: CGDC '06 literally changed my life and steered me in a great new direction. The people that I met there were top people in the industry, and also people with just a dream of making a game some day--one sitting next to the other. There were card game developers, video game developers, a comic book guy, musicians and sound engineers, CEO's, high schoolers, engineers and hobbiests. Even the local news showed up. Fellowshipping with all of these people was an unparallelled experience for me. It encouraged me and lifted me up, and I was able to do the same for others. I saw big deals being made in the hallways. I saw relationships being forged. It was incredible. And all the information I received in those three days was priceless. My wife and I would try to sit with new people at breakfast every time. There were toy promoters, screenplay writers, Hollywood filmschoolers, people who wandered into the cafeteria, and lots of other people. During the workshops, gamemakers and designers from top companies dedicated their time to help people with a dream. Christian gamemakers taught from their unique experiences of following God with a vision. People talked about marketing, about game engines, about programming, about level design in a game, about how to design a box for shipping, about distribution, just about everything. In the evening, there was fellowship time and time for people to sport their wares in the expo hall. We got to meet gamemakers, magazine editors, promoters, publishers, you-name-it from all over the world. You could shake hands with David Lancaster and then turn around and meet the head of the Ukrainian programming division of Left Behind Games. Or you could watch grown men jumping with glee on a dance pad. To say the least, it was amazing. The amount of money you spend to get there is well worth any vacation or any Christian conference I've been to.

I think 6 should be more than adequate.

Hey guys, I just wanted to post concerning carpools.

Do we have at least 3 or 4 people in Washington State that want to head down to Oregon this year? Just thought it'd probably be good to pool gas money and...uh...oh yeah, help save the environment. (Yeah. Right.)

Updated Press Release - please Email me at Tim at cgdc DOT org with feedback by Tuesday the 5th. Thanks -Tim

Date Set For 2007
Christian Game Developers Conference

This interactive entertainment field prepares for its sixth conference

PORTLAND, OREGON (4 June 2007) – The Christian Game Developers Conference (http://www.cgdc.org) announces their sixth annual conference and expo, to be held in Portland, Oregon, on July 19-21. The location of this year's conference will be the campus of Concordia University near the Portland Airport (PDX).

“Each year our industry gets more exciting” says conference organizer Tim Emmerich of GraceWorks Interactive (http://www.GraceWorksInteractive.com). “There have been several new games since last year. And it is encouraging to hear about new teams being formed.”

Returning sponsors of the expo include Micro Forté and Big World hosting the Saturday Dinner and Fellowship and GarageGames providing licenses to their Torque Gaming Engine. Other returning sponsors include Dallas Audio Post, Left Behind Games, Inspired Idea, VIA Technologies, Digital Praise, Rebel Planet Creations, and GraceWorks Interactive.

Returning attendees have expressed excitement for this year's conference. The general response identifies the conference as a unique experience, good fellowship, and opportunities to learn. Remember that any Christian working on a game or very interested in doing so is invited to this conference.

The format will follow last year’s conference. Specifically, the 2007 Christian Game Developers Conference will continue to feature discussion sessions but will also include more hands-on workshops and exhibit areas. Also, a few speeches will be made. But most importantly, all attendees will be encouraged and hopefully be closer to God for having attended.. At each year's expo, we are usually treated to project announcements, new publishing deals, and new teams.

Registration will be open soon and information, including a draft of the schedule and events as well as travel and lodging options, is available online at http://www.cgdc.org .

Company Info – the CGDC is hosted under GameACE (Association of Christian Entertainment).

We'd like to come but it's likely to cost too many Chows [inside joke...]. We have multiple projects in the works so unless one of our deals happen to come together soon like we hope we have to keep funneling all available funding into development.

Hey - are you on the gameace forum? We have most the needs/help posted on those forums:

Thanks for being willing to help!

For those that can't make it, I'm counting on your ardent prayers.

I might be able to make it this year.

Are any of you attendees flying/driving there from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta, Canada? If so, maybe we can arrange something to reduce each other's travel costs.
