At first I didn't like it.. it seemed strange. Then I saw how it worked and have a bit more trust for it, but I still think its a little bit... Anyway, it could be safe.. I don't like the way it says it detects your thoughts, but I knew this was coming since I was in kindergarten. The part that bugs me most.. Watch the scrolling screenshots and you'll see one with a computer monitor facing the photo. Take a close look... ------------------ |

Sorry man, GDC07 just ended----but either way they said they were getting dev kits on this thing to developers this year or early next or something like that---so hopefully we will see it soon With the creepy part, I don't think it can change your thoughts, just read them based on the electrical signals your brain produces whenever you think something----but it is like any product out there that 90% of people will use it for a positive and manufacturer-intended use while the remainder of people will be deviant with it---so some people will misuse it although I think (hope) that misuse will not be the norm. ------------------ |

Bah, misuse of anything is awesome. If this gets misused properly... oh yeah.. I could hook it up to my CD player. "I don't like this song" *skip!* "Infact, I dont like this CD" *BZZZZZZZZZ* "2 songs into the second CD is cool" *BEEPBEEP* "Now to watch TV" *BEEP* Yeah, hacking is always good. ------------------ |

sure, i guess its fine for entertainment... until it becomes big brother's entertainment when they implant microchips into it so they know everything you are thinking :O ------------------ |

Definately the future, and it looks like a really cool idea (it's all going to be like the Holodeck on Star Trek someday). But, it's moving too fast, like can we wait for the gyroscope\Wii\PS3 period to end, then virtual reality? haha [This message has been edited by LAVA (edited March 14, 2007).] |

Whoa, Boogie...
don't become some old coot who thinks that commercial-brand shampoo is used for brainwashing or something else like that. ------------------

Is that really virtual reality though? I think (I might be wrong) that it just takes your thoughts and treat them like a typical controller for a typical on screen game that can be expanded upon with this technology--isn't VR like with the goggles and early 90's geek chic stuff? LOL either way it is cool--LOL it would be funny to see some hacks for it---hook a small shock collar up to the neighbors dog and, any time you need to take aggression out on something, a loud yip erupts from the neighbor's house! ------------------ |

true, kind of reminds one of Batman Forever---but I don't think this specific thing is necessarily that hehe ------------------ |

haha. this looks pretty cool. I'm not creeped out by the whole read your thoughts thing. well, not very much anyways. ------------------ |

oh ok LOL---I wonder if true VR will ever find any footing or if it will just kind of stay a niche thing that happened in the past--honestly I kinda like the way games work now because they can tell a story along with creating a 'living and breathing' world where as VR tends to only do the latter---some game storytelling would be hard to do when the main character is technically different for each person that plays. ------------------ |

Actually I looked at all the information there, and it seemed not truely thought reading, but electronic wave pattern reading. When you think something it would send out a brain wave, and it appears they have devoloped a device that would pick up the signals if strong enough, and reckonize patterns with the current data, and then use that. Rather than truely READING thoughts. In actuality as far as my knowledge, thoughts aren't really sentence-like structure of input and output. That's just my theory from what I know. On a lighter note, this is something that I've rather been thinking was cool, and would want to utilize so that the control system wouldn't be so tedious. However, I've realised from my gaming experience what i think about doing, and what I want to do can be totally different, and if it interpreted my brainwave too soon I could be a Jedi killing Yoda when I just thought about how fun it would be. ------------------ I reserve the full right to change my views/theories at any time. |

LOL yeah no lie on the Yoda thing---with thoughts wouldn't thoughts ultimately be electrical signals though since that is what we run on? ------------------ |

Precisely. I think Mene-mene had some weird alien thing in mind, not being familiar with the current technology. Its kinda like taking EEG and using the output as input for an application... though that would be far less voluntary and it would take some learning. Some researchers (cant remember where) have succeeded in allowing a crippled man to control a "mouse pointer" on screen with his mind alone, even using paint to make a picture. (A crappy one, but a picture ) Now this isn't to be thought of as "hey, I think I'll move the mouse to the start menu" and it does it. He probably had to learn which things he did caused that activity and attempt to replicate it. ------------------ |

yeah they even had one dude playing simple games like Pac-Man----actually that is one cool advantage of this tech is that it could allow fully crippled people to have more fun with video games that would be awesome! ------------------ |

Not to bring the whole VR thing back up, but this reminded me of some christian movie (wouldn't you know it :P) i saw a long time ago. i dont remember the name or much about it in general, but it was post rapture and it was the time where they were trying to get everyone to accept the mark or else get their head chopped off. well, some how they rigged up some virtual reality system, when you put on the helmet deal, you'd be in this white room or whatever and you'd somehow end up in the guillotine and get your head chopped off. that never made much sense to me. although I suppose that would be somehow possible in those times, but i really doubt that's how it will happen..... i mean come on.. "We found a much easier and effective way of beheading the deniers of the mark... here, put this helmet on... it will.... give you ... wings...... yes.... wings...." *SHLING!* ------------------ |

yeah I saw part of that movie too--was really cheesy---probably the only good movie series about the Rapture I have ever seen is the 'Thief In the Night' movies (there are 4 of them)--they were made in the late 70's/early 80's but are very good considering the time frame ------------------ |
