Well, its Valentines day, and I'd like to wish you all a Happy Valentines Day! Did you know however about the origin of Valentines Day?

Valentines Day originated in an attempt by Hallmark to sell more products, it was named after St. Valentine. And so Hallmark made Valentines Day. Hmm... Wouldn't you like to have a company that makes National Holidays to sell products? lol.

Yes, happy V-Day to all.

I like your style Laz. You've got a greeting for all the seasons at once. As a lazy person, I congratulate you

Yes. OpenFreakSoftware (My fictional company) sells "Linux Day Cards". Within the next year it will be the rage. Everyone will be giving each other aqua coloured Linux CDs and DVD (with Dolphins printed on them) on March 20th.

Actually, St. Valentine's Day existed long before Hallmark. It was first instituted as an official holiday ("holiday" is a concatenation "holy day") by the Catholic Church in 496 A.D., a feast day in honor and memory of Saint Valentinus, a bishop and priest who was martyred in the 3rd century.

I don't know when the tradition of sending romantic cards and gifts on this day started.

That's not an official Orthodox saint so I don't care. It's a silly holiday and it's origins are questionable.

"Nobody's quite sure, but it might have to do with a North African plant. During the seventh century B.C., the city-state of Cyrene* had a lucrative trade in a rare, now-extinct plant: silphium. Although it was mostly used for seasoning, silphium was reputed to have an off-label use as a form of birth control. The silphium was so important to Cyrene's economy that coins were minted that depicted the plant's seedpod, which looks like the heart shape we know today. The theory goes that the heart shape first became associated with sex, and eventually, with love."

So it was about sex then changed to love.

No, I mean dolphins. Dolphins are cute, penguins are too, but they've already been turned into the operating system's mascot so I can't use it.

Hmm. I wasn't aware that a Linux day already existed. No, I just chose a random date.
