I've been looking for a good, free (preferably open source) brain training software (like Brain Age for the DS) that I can use for daily exercise and brain sharpening. Does anyone know a program like this, or have any clue about any good ones that you've tried before and might be worth buying?

Don't know what brain training software is, but Sudoku is suppossed to help with logic, problem-solving, prevention of Dementia, and Brain stuff. Here's some web ones, and it pretty popular.

Project Euler is one that I've enjoyed -- it's a series of programming challenges that start simple and progress to more difficult, with the more difficult being worth more points. It has puzzles that are based on math, logic, game theory, optimization, etc. There's a wide range to choose from, and it's a fun way to practice programming too.

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but thought I'd suggest it anyways.

The old "Dr. Brain" games were pretty cool brain exercisers too -- you can one or two of them on abandonware sites.

Cheers!

somewhat off-topic question...is it possible to increase your iq level by doing this sort of stuff?

Keep in mind your IQ isn't how smart you are. Its how ACADEMICALLy smart you are. Logic is also important, as well as thinking. The brain isn't neccessarily linked to your IQ directly. Don't know how to answer your question directly though.
