i'm looking for something to let my wife store all the info on her penpals. email address/physical address/etc, but i don't want a full blown personal contact manager/email program/3d game/encyclopedia all in one program like everything i've managed to find so far. something that is open source in c# would be nice(not expecting that though).

have you tried www.softpedia.com ? they have lots of stuff like that, and if you just want a simple program why don't you make one in vb/vc++? it's fairly easy isn't it?

You might try just whipping something up in a database (M$ Access?)

Here is something from CodeProject. Uses a database for storage: http://www.codeproject.com/cs/database/DBManipulationADONET.asp

There is the Address Book in Windows (Start/All Programs/Accessories/Address Book).

I also wrote an extremely simple address book in C#. It reads/writes to a database (Access, I think) and also has examples for XML storage as well. I can e-mail it if you are interested, or maybe add it to the articles section as a starter example. It has no search functionality. Just forward/back traversal.

What version of vb? .net? 6?

Also, if you have/use M$ Access, try googling "VB ADO Tutorial" ADO is the component that hooks VB to databases. I believe its ODBC too, if so it can work with other odbc compliant databases.

hey, i did some vb in the past,i think i did one or two database related programs, if you are going to use ms access you really don't need to know that much of odbc,or ado unless you are thinking of making a complex database with crystal report or something like that,if you just want a simple db, why don't you just use the simple stuff, if you want me to help you out, just tell me the fields and stuff and i'm sure i'll be able to make something for you, but really it's one of the simplest app's you could build.

Why not access? I've worked with it for other reasons, and it works fine for me.

it is access as the matter of fact all you need is vb to make access based programs ms access has a visual basic editor built inside it.

No I mean I thought that he wasn't using Access.

I know it has vb in it, I'm just having trouble finding the editor. I want to make formulas, but thats for another topic/day.
