Why can't PC and Linux be more like PC and Mac? http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac/home/goodwill_connectspeed.mov ------------------ |

Well if people think the same way the commericals want you to think (automatically associating PC's with M$, ie PC guy has a certain resemblance to Bill Gates), I would say linux and PC are getting along, lol. http://www.christiancoders.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum2&topic=0010 51 But seriously, I find those commericals histerical and not in way they intended lol. ------------------ [This message has been edited by LAVA (edited December 27, 2006).] |

they're pretty funny. not my favorite. but funny. haha, you can forget that ever happening, Ereon. someone should build a Linux pc. like, made for Linux, I mean. it could be non-Windows compatible. that would be awesome. haha. ------------------ |

I think the computer world would be a better place if Apple made the computers, made everything simple and designed the look for the OS, Linux programmed them and made the OS, and Microsoft marketed them. ------------------ [This message has been edited by LAVA (edited December 28, 2006).] |

Because that would take away peoples freedom. What I love about computing (and the main reason I use BSD (and Linux)) is because I have the freedom to choose what I want to use and how my pc is configured. I also want the freedom to be able to install Windows if I please. Thats whats important in computing to me... freedom. ------------------ |

I was joking. yeah, freedom's awesome. but all the computer companies are selling their pcs with Windows already on it. and you have to pay for the extra windows. and most of them won't sell it without Windows. ------------------ |

Typically, those who buy desktop computers from companies tend to want windows anyway. The laptop market is a bit different, but eh. Whether its the average home user buying a Dell or an avid gamer buying an Alienware PC - they're expecting windows to come pre-installed. "Plug and Play" "Ready to use , out of the the box" ,etc. This is what most people are looking for. Installing an OS is not fun, its tedious and boring. If I'm buying a prebuilt computer its because I don't have the a)time, b)knowledge, or c)desire to build my own. For these same reasons I would like the most common operating system to be ready to go. Just another perspective to consider. ------------------ |

yeah. but couldn't they make it an option? because I don't want to pay the extra 150-200 dollars for it. and then not use it. haha. ------------------ |

Have you noticed how easy Windows is to crack? Passwords are able to be deleted, security is terrible. I mean I'm the one cracking it! I'm Mr.Got my own first computer at 5. I'm Mr.Only knows BB+3d, and starting on BM. ------------------ |

Ah ok, are you the administrator of the computer? How else is the security terrible? ------------------ |

Mene-Mene, thats nothing special. Every operating system has security flaws; those of XP are just better known because the OS is most widely used. ------------------ |

Ok, what I said had little to do with me. I have a custom built computer and change os's all the time. Just playing devil's advocate. I also said at the beginning of the post that I wasn't addressing laptops. ------------------ |
