i have a gateway essentials 400c computer running a 400mhz celeron, it was free so don't laugh, and i was wondering if anyone thought $6-$10 would be worth it for a 500mhz celeron? i have my wife's computer for anything else, this is just my toy. something about running windows 2000 on an old computer, using an old keyboard...the kind you actually have to press to get the buttons down. ...anywho, do y'all thinkthe little bit of cash would be worth it? ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

if it's only $6 - $10 and it's compatible with the motherboard, then go for! any older computer can use the extra power if you're running Micro$oft with it. hee hee...seriously though, that's not a bad deal. |

$6-$10 isn't bad. But I suggest you save your money and don't buy a McMuffin tomorrow. so you can make up the cost difference ------------------ [This message has been edited by CPUFreak91 (edited December 04, 2006).] |

Gateway = ensure compatability. Some of these machines ALSO had their CPU's soldered into the motherboard. FYI |

the cpu's not soldered on, i've already put a 500mhz in another motherboard from and identical machine...which i threw away like a week before i got this one. one more question...fedora core 6 ran very very crappy on it, i was wondering xubuntu(the one that uses xfce) would run smoother on it? not much i can do with 400mhz and 256mb of ram. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

quote: I don't know. You should try both Xubuntu and Vector linux. I like Vector linux. I'm writing an article about it so if you want more info, on it you can read the article within 4 weeks (as right now I'm too lazy to go in to details). I will say this. Vector Linux is small, and fast. ------------------ |
