It is possible to make a professional christian game project? (Professional in graphics, desing, code, music... so in all.)

I working in game developing 6 years ago as graphics artist, game designer, level editor, graphics technical developer. I like to make christian games. :-)

But the big problem is: we need to SELL (edited word our game, because at home it is impossible to reach the professional level... I think...

Dude!!! I love your work!!! This is an inspiration!

And what's more awesome is that you're a Christian!!!

Yes I believe you can create professional Christians games. Companies like Xrucifix are making and have made some. And I believe the Left Behind game has professional *graphics*.

I do also believe it is possible - although I don't know if I have fully reached the level of polish. I do think that - we need to seek the Lord learn the rules we are supposed to use to create software. By that I mean the Christians creative process you be different that the seculars world as it should include the ability in how it does things.

you should get in contact with christian games studios if you want and offer up your skills. I know theres a few who really need some experienced and skilled 2d/3d artists (animators/modellers/texture artists).

Hi, Endi!

Welcome to CCN!

Very impressive portfolio -- I really enjoyed looking through your work. I'm really impressed that you use Blender as well! I really like your visual style, and the amount of character and depth that you put into your art.

What do you mean? That we would need to sell our game to a game company or publishing house in order to get enough funds to make professional quality games? Perhaps, yes. There are some very impressive efforts right now to make AAA-quality Christian-based games right now. People have already mentioned Xrucifix making Eternal War: Nightmares, and there is also Boanerges Studios who are on a project currently known as Armageddon -- you can see more screenshots of that project over on this page.

Digital Praise is probably the most professional family-focused game development company right now. They have really made a hit with their recent game Dance Praise, and it won Game of the Year at this past year's Christian Game Developer's Conference.

Anyways, I need to go now, but I look forward to seeing more of you around here!

Are you looking for projects to get involved in? I know I'm working on some projects that are always looking for good help, as are many other people here. If you're looking to invest your time in a project, you've certainly come to the right place.

Cheers!

In Christ,
clint

Wow! I believe that with your skills it's definitely possible to create a polished professional christian game. I really enjoy your work, please keep it up!

Also, I'm glad to see that you're using Blender!

Hey cool, those renderings look alright especially considering they are from Blender. Do you make low-poly models as well or just high-poly models?

Or you be a Clinto and say something like "Let's stop discussing it and get on with making it come true "

Sorry David -- I would have written more going on about your games, but I was late for a meeting and had to run out earlier.

One particularly fine specimen of good quality game development done with a very small team is Rebel Planet Creations, and they just started shipping their first title, Axys Adventures.

While it may not be AAA quality, it certainly is good quality for an indie game, and I look forward to seeing it sell well. White Knight Games produces similar quality work, and recently finished their first game called Timothy and Titus, which they expect to be shipping soon.

So yeah, there's a little more eye candy for your perusing pleasure.

Or you could be a David Lancaster and not say much at all, but just bust out with a sweet game and surprise everybody because they weren't discussing it much but instead spending their time getting it done.

I'm still super-pumped that you guys are shipping -- that's fantastic.

As long as I can hang out with you next year at CGDC I'll be happy

Got any ideas for some games Clint? How is your current online game coming along?

It's totally possible. It's not about having the best graphics in the business. It's about how good your game is, how unique it is. Look at games like Darwinia and the new Defcon. Sure there not like AAA titles but they ae great to play, and certaintly Steam think so to.

My online game idea is still chillin' -- I might move forward on it at some point, but I don't have enough time to dedicate to my own hobby projects at the moment. I'm working on laying my own projects aside and helping other people on their projects. So the main things I've been working on lately have been Progress 21 (a 21st century adaptation of Pilgrim's Progress) and also working with JeTSpice Games on their upcoming title, Exegesis.

This segues nicely into coming back on the topic of quality games. In the independent games community, there are often too many chiefs and not enough indians. There are so many people trying to push their own game ideas and ask for help on their projects, but very few people who are willing to put their personal dreams on the shelf to help make someone else's a reality. It's my guess (and I know many on here share this same belief) that we'll see more success as we come along-side each other and work together on someone else's project rather than just working by ourselves on a project that doesn't stand to get finished by ourselves.

I remember reading an old interview with Gump (who works for Xrucifix, formerly Two Guys Software) where he talked about how he was doing this, and it really did a lot to push me into that direction as well.

I still work on personal projects -- but I mainly try to keep them in the "hobby" or "interesting idea" realm, rather than investing a lot of time or energy into them.

That online game idea actually wasn't my own idea, but I was working on that one for some friends of mine. They may have more time for it in the future, but they're not ready to work on it yet, so we'll see what happens with that. I still think it's a really good idea, and I'm continuing to keep my eyes open and looking for possibilities as to how to develop it better.

Cheers!

whoa!! its great to see a christian on this level of talent.

you're an inspiration to us all.

you have some phenomenal talent in 3D modeling and texturing. if you have programming talent to match (or even half as much) then, well. wow.

God has truly given you a great gift, glad you are using it.
