hey, last month (September 15), we bought a new house. its 100,000 dollars and it will take 30 years to pay for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaah! oh well. but its cool. but the people who lived there were c-razy!! they had all kinds of pets. cats, dogs, cockatoos, monkeys, skunks!!!!! (!!!!)... and they just let them run wild and go on the carpet and such. also there was mold on the baseboard in the basement. thats bad, its like a health hazard, plus it can ruin stuff. but it went away when it dried out, so thats good. they had weird weird weird paint colors too. they had like dull brown for some walls... jungle green for others... and the basement was all tangerine!!!!! my dad joked that they let the monkeys pick the paint colors. heh. and they had the WORST wallpaper you could ever pick. weird wallpaper banner thingys in almost all the rooms. spent a while pulling those off. and we have to do almost all the work ourselves. i think the only things we arent doing is drywalling the ceiling in the basement and putting in carpet. we're not even putting carpet in the basement. we're staining the concrete. we spent like 3-4 days putting in laminate wood floors in the dining room and kitchen. we got a new miter saw and a table saw!! hey, just wanted to post this. pray for us with all this work and moving and stuff... sorry if its really long. hope nobody minds. ------------------

no, we're not putting it on. we're taking it off lol. but yeah i bet it is a pain... its sure is a pain getting it off. especially when there is multiple layers. i have a friend whose family is actually building a dome house. they live in florida and i guess they're doing it because its stronger for the hurricanes... they are taking a lot longer than they thot they would. yeah, it is a lot of work. ------------------

Good luck with the house, Buddboy, I know what it's like fixing up a house Building one too, back in Brazil about 5 years ago. <sigh>... that was an awesome house, but now we're fixing up our new house here in the U.S.-- nothing like pulling out big carpets or putting in new floors, though....at least not yet. Well good luck.------------------ "Time is an excellent teacher, but eventually it kills all of its students." |

yeah. we got a lot of stuff for great prices. got 2 88 dollar vanity cabinets for 11 bucks cuz they were having a sale at lowes. got some light fixtures too for like 15 bucks. we're finding stuff for great prices. yesterday we bought 2 cans of paint for like 10 bucks and one of those cans of paint usually costs like 30 bucks. once we get carpet upstairs we could probably move in and work on the basement while living there. ------------------

BTW, I doubt that its that your parents take 30 years to pay $100,000 dollars, but rather its a $100,000 mortage with 30 years. Difference? One its possible to pay before the payments. With a mortgage, they make a large calculation of the interst for 30 yrs, and come up with consistant payments. ------------------ |

Dang... thats a big thing, last Time we bought a new house... it was right down teh street from where our old house was! haha! New Houses are cool... wait, no, I lied, my familiy (including granparents and aunt & uncle) bought a house next (right next door) to our cousins in Washington. You know that family they've been talking about on the news? The one that got totally snowed in and were missing for like a week? They stopped at the exact same dennys we ate at 2 hours later than we did. That last part is kinda sad.. ------------------ |

we make house payments every month and at the rate we pay them it will take 30 years to pay the 100,000 dollars the house costs. we won't fully own it until then. I believe I know what I'm talking about when it comes to my own house, Mene-Mene. I know we can pay before the payments. but that doesn't mean we have the money to pay before the payments. we don't even have a mortgage. why would we mortgage the house? ------------------ |
Lazarus![]() Member Posts: 1668 From: USA Registered: 06-06-2006 |
I don't believe you know what you're talking about when it comes to your own house, Buddboy. j/k |

Budd: I'm pretty sure you don't exactly know what you're talking about though it be your house, I studied business for a while, a good bit longer than coding. But anyway, the payments you talk about are for the mortage, the payments are a debt spread out between 30 years, though you can hurry it. Where do you get the money, if you have no mortgage. Its also called a house loan sometimes. Unless paid cash in full, you must get a loan somehow to get the house, with financing. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Mene-Mene (edited December 20, 2006).] |

the youth speaks truth; if you're making payments, chances are, it's to pay off a loan. just remember, real-life mortgage isn't like mortages in Monopoly. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ArchAngel (edited December 20, 2006).] |

Yeah, we know more about your house than you do. lol I've got experience moving, and it isn't fun I know. I've moved more than 10 times in my life, and twice from Ohio/Indiana to California/Oregon, not fun stuff. ------------------ |

um, Mene-Mene, i have experience moving too. i've moved 14 times in less years than you. in about the last 9 years I've moved at least 14 times. yeah. it is to pay off a loan. i thought you meant like, a second mortgage. like Arch said, like in monopoly. haha. you actually can mortgage like in monopoly. it's referred to as a second (or third or whatever) mortgage. knew somebody mortgaged their house 3 times. they were pretty stupid tho. ------------------ |

Mene-Mene![]() Member Posts: 1398 From: Fort Wayne, IN, USA Registered: 10-23-2006 |
You just did. I was replying to crazyishone's argument that I knew nothing near him in real estate and home ownership, so I gave him a few examples of things that might give him to right to that claim. Though he's got me beaten in age, I was testing to see if he was old enough to require ownership of a house of his own. If he's owned any houses, and if he's going to rent any for cashflow, and what their ROI was. I just wanted to see what makes up his claim to say he knew more without any basis. I don't know what he meant by calling me a smart *** and don't know what that means. But regardless it meant harm regardless. He also is also ignorant, at least most of us. You're right about moving 100 times and being ignorant. So I don't know what the purpose is insulting me. Lava: Actually, it has lots to do with house ownership as opposed to moving. Like mortages, I did say that I might know more about his house, but not business. I was saying the length rather than times, but regardless this is pointless. BTB: I think thats just rediculous and crazy. That's just nuts. Laz: You just did. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Mene-Mene (edited December 21, 2006).] |

I called you that because you're being one. You're smarter than quite a few people here, there is no need to go to immature measures to prove it. A person, especially one that moves with their parents, has little or no involvement in the financial aspects of real estate. If you still care to listen to my advice, here's a bit for you: Don't challenge the intelligence or ability of people you do not know. The internet is home to actions without consequences, and people will insult you just because they can. Flaunting your intelligence on a forum for programmers isn't going to get you anywhere. "Smart" people are jerks, arrogant and narcissistic to the core. You'll have to adapt to that. Maybe in school you're the brightest kid in your class, but as soon as you go online, leave that notion behind. There is always somebody smarter. These are the rantings of somebody who still has much to learn. I do feel, though, that I should try to prevent you from making the same mistakes I made. (And still make...another story for another time?) ------------------ |

Man, you guys - I think I'm older than most, or a lot of you, anyway, and I've moved, um, twice. No wait, once, unless you count moving in & out of college dorms & apartments, which I don't. My parents lived in the house I was born in until I was 24 (they bought it 3 years before I was born). I moved when I got married. We might be moving in a couple months, to another duplex a few miles away. That will be my second move. Oh, and about mortgages - buddboy, I know you don't exactly have input as to your parents' finances, but they'll save a whole lot of money in interest if they pay the mortgage off early. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tonnyx (edited December 22, 2006).] |

Wow, thank you Tonnyx for your usual gentle response. Its interesting meeting people who live in one city/house/state all their lives, or a huge section when I've moved around so much. Its kind of hard to fathom. But yeah, you're right, they could save a good deal of money by paying it off early. ------------------ |

there's places around here(kentucky) you can get get like a 3 bedroom house and 5 acres for like $40,000. the really expensive homes are like $250,000. but these are outside of owensboro and bowling green(our biggest town/city-wannabes around here) . i think paying $100,000 for anything residential that doesn't have at leats 80 acres of land attached is obsurd...but i'd also be satisfied living in a trailer i can get for about $5,000, and about $10,000 for a few acres of land. i love the country. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

yeah but you liff out in dem stickey things. the hickness towns. also I live right near Louisville, and that is a big city. so, really Owensboro and E-town are not your biggest eh.. city-wannabes? whatever. oh around there. well, you can't compare the rest of the country to the little place you live in and say all prices should be the same as there. that's crazy cheap. 5 acres and a 3 beddie for 40 grand? wow. cuz it's near absolutely nothing. cept' some cows. maybe a sheep or two. i know where there are 3 bedroom houses for 500,000. in la florida. ------------------ |
