Well Mack, I just finished DLing EW(dialup sucks, big time. Took about 7 hours)

and the trailer was very cool! The music would make my Mom's ears tingle with horror I'm afraid :P , but it was very interesting to watch.

If for no other reason than this prize I'm glad I entered the competition.

Lol, then their eyes might tingle at the gameplay. Very dark and gritty, at least for my tastes

Yeah, and Mike's ponytail would have them up in arms as well.

I like the gameplay except for not being able to move sideways. Most other fps's I've played had that so I've gotten used to it and keep getting killed by that demon with the fireballs.
Little hard to evade when you can't just slide to the right or left.

Just adjust the keybinds in the options and you'll be all set. I rearranged my keys to the classic WSAD keys just for old times sake . Maybe we can get together some time and do some coop or something Lazarus, do you have an IM like Yahoo or something?

I have AIM and ICQ (Lazarus 100th and 319-322-719 respectively)

So there are keys that slide you sideways? I better add those.

Well, call me crazy, but I took those 3 music files and spliced them together to listen to on my computer .

Nice music. Is there any more of it, Mack?

Glad you guys are enjoying the game, it was a 9 month love child of blood, sweat and stress. The default strafe keys are < and > but you can set them to whatever you want in the options.

All the tunes that are with the game are it, however you can download some of the work in progress tunes being used in Eternal War: Nightmares at our MySpace: www.myspace.com/xrucifix

Hey Mack, are we allowed to make maps and such for the game? And do you know any easier ways to connect with people for coop and flood maps?

How do I turn the status text back on? Like the part that tells health, ammo, etc. because I seem to have inadvertently turned it off in the options and can't find what turns it back on.

Try checking your display area or something like that, there's not that many options I don't think.

EW: SOL runs off of a modified Quake 1 engine, it can load and play any Quake 1 maps and you can build maps using any Quake 1 map editor. So just build your map for Quake 1 and use the ew.wad for the graphics: http://www.xrucifix.com/ewsol/ewwad.zip

During and after release for several years I pitched to various server browsers (GameSpy, ASE, Qtracker, etc.) but no one picked it up. So right now there isn't really any 'easy' way to connect to games and there probably won't be until a browser picks it up. The multiplayer bots are really good however.

Is there a particular Quake 1 map editor that you would suggest Mack? I'm toying with the idea of making some new maps of EW as practice for my level design skills and such, especially now that we have some people in the community who have the game and can play it with each other.

Really? Didn't you have to pay iD Software like all kinds of money to use it?

I think Quark would be a good tool for ediiting Quake levels

The Quake 1, Quake 2 and now Quake 3 engines are all under the GPL. Meaning you can develop and sell a game based on those engines without paying iD a penny, as long as you release your source code for free. If you don't want to release the source code you pay.

I've played in Quark and Radiant, they're both pretty good.

At one point, iD freely released the source code. As mentioned earlier, Xcrucifix has done the same thing. You can download the EW source code and make updates.

It is a fun game. I bought it directly from the hands of Mack a few years back. Never played multi-player though. Might be fun to set up a game.

Way back at CGDC04, poor SSquared, Pat and I would bug him to no end because he looked so much like the famous comedian Rick Moranis. Not sure if he still looks like that. :)

I think the thread was on here, but linked to my photo over on CCGR. We no longer have that version of CCGR anymore, so alas...no photo. I've basically heard it over the last 20+ years, so I assume there is no change in the last 2 years.

I wish I could get some stand-in part for a movie. Or perhaps someone is working on a game requiring the likeness of Rick Moranis. Anyone? Dark Helmet perhaps?

Wow! I didn't realize Quake 2 and 3 are also GPL'd.

Of those two Mack which has the shallowest learning curve and which is most easily compataible without having to, say, go buy Quake as Quark apparently requires?

I fear I'll have tomatoes thrown at me because of all the Quark lovers here but I personally liked Radiant a bit more. Also, you should be able to redirect any files that any editor needs to Eternal War. So if it needs the quake.exe then redirect it to eternalwar.exe, if it needs quake.wad direct it to ew.wad. At least that's what I did back in the day.

Thanks for your support guys, we really appreciate it. I'm not sure if anyone noticed but I updated the pictures on the website for the Nightmares rotation, showing off some new concept art. Enjoy.

Nightmares concept art has a special place in my heart, next to Mountain Dew and Nachos.
