I was playing up until the CCN competition. I did just downwload the latest version which came out 2 or so days ago. It is a really good open source game. I've played about 5 levels of one of the campaigns. |

I was playing on 'Easy' too. Still fun, though, for learning. But the scenarios take a switch where all of a sudden, you realize you are just creaming the enemy. |

I haven't been able to realize that yet. |

thats how it was with the old CNC Red Alert game in skirmishes (quick battles, like deathmatch in AoE). you had it on easy and you just creamed the enemy, but on medium or hard it was like you die a quick and painful death (hey, they dont go together, but thats how it was) ------------------ | |

I've tried...couldn't get into it.. Only turn based games I've liked were Panzer General 2, and Call to Power 2 ------------------ |

quote: I have not seen a war simulation I've ever played had that issue. It's [art of the nature of the genre. What happens is twice as many equally powerful units are four times as effective, and three times - nine times as effective. What a game needs is a mechanism to recognize that point. Master Of Orion II did - with galatic councils once you had 1/2 the population in the universe you'd win the vote. |

That's probably generally true. I mean, there is going to be a point when someone is out ahead. You can't possibly have 100 vs. 5 and make it challenging. Even in those cases, I do still enjoy the game because I am looking for that win. Total Annihilation (my fave RTS) is notorious for this. You amass a HUGE military towards the later part of the game and just walk through demolishing everything. But I still enjoy the accomplishment because it was my earlier decisions and tactics which brought me to that point. In any case, the little bit I've played of Wesnoth, I still really enjoyed playing on Easy. The scenarios start out challenging and you still need to be strategic in how you will handle the situation. Easy is definitely a good way to learn the game. |

I agree Wesnoth is great (esp. for FREEEE!). Of course, I had to uninstall it so I could work instead of be tempted to just play one more level... Of course I'm such a perfectionist when it comes to playing this style of game, I not only want to win each level, I also want to do it without losing any of my favorite companions and earning most gold as possible! so I end up reloading my saves ALOT! |
