In the Old Testament it says pigs are unclean(along with a bunch of others), and some Christians think this means we are not allowed to eat their meat.
Same goes for certain types of seafood like shrimp-clams-squid(people eat that!).

What do you guys think?

Well, allow me to return with a question. What do you think were the reasons for those commands?

Okay...

IMO the reasons were
A. Eating those animals could sometimes give you diseases.(I think)
B. That's about it, sorry. I never understood why catfish is unclean and salmon isn't.

So why doesn't steak count? (or did they even have steak?)

If you look at what is clean and unclean it makes alot of sense from a health perspective. Most of these creatures are scavengers and stuff them selves with waste that we wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll. shellfish most especially since they not only eat dead and rotting things but human sewage is one of their favorite treats. To this day most cases of food poisoning are caused by shellfish. As far as vegitables go, mushrooms really don't give you much nutrient-wise and many forms are downright poisonous. Not to say there aren't ecxeptions and some benefits in some unclean foods. there's a whole host of things wrong with drinking blood.

Clean animals on the other hand are herbavores and clean plants get their nutrients directly from the sun for the most part.So naturally clean foods are probably better for you overall.

All that being said we are free to eat as we choose under the new covenant and here's some verses to that effect:

If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience' sake. But if anyone says to you, "This was offered to idol," do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience' sake. (I Cor. 10:28-29)

Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. (Rom. 14:1-4)

Ah, but all things were not GOOD for him to do (as in benefical or expedient).

*Opens his mouth wide to receive the large end of a pork chop, when his Dad appears around the corner... gulp! choke - gasp - wheeze..
"What's going on, Lazarus?", he asks. "And why is there grease on your fingers?"
"Ummmmmm...."
"You've been eating pig meat?!" in a shocked and horrified voice.
"Well, yes."
"Get out of this house! I'm disowning you!!!"*
"Yeah yeah..." walks off in disgust.

So where'd I put those strips of bacon? Ah, here they are...

I don't think anything you get out of 90% of the aisles in stores counts as "clean".
I have this notion that command was "loosend" after Christ, but I don't know. I pretty sure it still says to NEVER consume the blood. So, someone needs to send a letter to Fear-Factor
