Peter Churness took this video footage of the conference: http://www.rebelplanetcreations.com/media/video/CGDC2006.wmv The beginning of the movie is me and Peter in Bozeman, Montana. Enjoy! David Lancaster |

Thank you for the video. I didn't spot any crosses but the game that was played looks nice since it's not based in a brutal violence and people seem'd to be well focused in it. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

Thanks for the video, David! I really enjoyed watching that -- we had such a good time at the conference, it was good to have such a nice visual reminder of everyone there. Jari, did you catch the part where Steve Goss was playing Bible Dave? You could hear him picking up the Bibles with the little gliss sound effect. Thanks again, David! In Christ, |

Yeah, I saw the Bible Dave game too, I couldn't see it very clearly, but I could tell it was the game, from the colors and look of it all. ------------------ |

It's in the first video -- you can't see it very well, but you can definitely hear the sound effects -- that's what gives it away the most. --clint |

Ha! Yeah, in the video from 3:13 to 3:30, it shows two guys playing games. I'm the shaggy headed guy right, playing Bible Dave on the black laptop. For me, it was the funnest game I played at the conference, but I may be biased, since I'm a retro gamer. Bible Dave, with all the 2D platforming, vine climbing action, and, uh... sweet graphics, it feels just like 1986. ------------------ |

Right I noticed BD now from the video, you sure can hear the sounds well. Glad to hear you like playing it steveth45! We have some new levels under construction and I just hope some one will step up to help with the graphics so that we can finnish it. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

Does anyone have the video or audio footage of Troy (left behind guy) talk??? |
mjohnson Member Posts: 48 From: Registered: 08-03-2006 |
I have never been to the Christian Game Developers Conference, however in watching a lot of the videos/listening to audio posted in various places on the internet, I am a bit confused... I would assume that a Game Developers Conference would teach people how to create a video game, market it, etc. and that people would have video games to show off that they have made...but it seems to me that this conference is nothing more than a live forum/message board discussion, puh-lease correct me if I am wrong, as I have said that I have never attended one, just looked at/listened to what others have posted...but it seems to me to be a lot of endless debating and personal opinions and theories rather than actual game making??? Thanks, Michelle |

Hey, mjohnson-- Welcome to CCN! There aren't very many girls here, so it's nice to see another one here. You may be confused between CCN (Christian Coders Network) and CGDC (Christian Game Developers' Conference). Let me explain - no, there is too much. Let me sum up: CCN: this forum that you are reading right now, where people come together and talk. It goes through phases as far as what the different "hot topics" are. Generally, though, people who come here are interested in making or thinking about making Christian games. However, people here can talk about just about anything. I think that is one of the things that is good about this forum - we are all interested in games, but we aren't restricted to just talking about that. Did you see the Bible Dave community project? That was a really neat thing that the people here at CCN came together to work on. CGDC: A conference held annually in Portland, Oregon. The association's website is www.gameace.org. It has its own forum there, also. It does exactly a lot of what you expressed a "Christian Game Developers' Conference" should do: people showcase their products, and speakers give various talks on topics including: game design, marketing, etc. Some of the "big" attendees include: Digital Praise (publishers of Dance Praise, Adventures in Odyssey games, and some others), John de Margheriti of MicroForte (an Australian businessman/game developer), Scott Wong of Brethren Entertainment (they released Light Rangers recently), and Rebel Planet Creations (David Lancaster of CCN is on board with them). There are also a number of individuals who go there looking to make contacts so that they can either recruit others or get involved in a project. Have you listened to the audio that HanClinto posted? (find HanClinto's May 24, 2006 post here: http://www.christiancoders.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000234.html)- he and I recorded audio for a few of the talks that they didn't have video cameras for, including a survey of current board game trends, a talk about the independent production process (JetSpice gave this one), as well as Digital Praise's discussion about their experience in producing Dance Praise. It was pretty awesome. Also read the last third or so of this thread for other reports from the conference: http://www.christiancoders.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000347.html I hope this helps! ------------------ [This message has been edited by tonnyx (edited August 03, 2006).] [This message has been edited by tonnyx (edited August 03, 2006).] |

Oh, I didn't know that there weren't very many girls on here. Who exactly are the other girls? As for being confused, no I'm not. Like I said, I've listened to and viewed videos/audio people have posted in various places. Thanks for trying to explain however. ~Michelle |

You said you were confused, and then you said you weren't. That's confusing to me. The conference is a 3-day weekend of intensive workshops where the people who are making a living by developing Christian games teach those who aspire to do so how to do it. It's exactly what you thought it should be. There's about 30 hours of video that gets edited and goes on a disk, but it's not available until CGDC '07. Most of the pictures and video you see are times of Christian fellowship in between the workshops. |

Hi, well, what I was referring to was that I wasn't confused about the difference between a conference and a forum! Lol! An idiot would be confused about that! Lol! What I was confused about is that at this conference (which of course I said that I have never been to and was simply wondering about) seems to be a lot of debating like on a forum, as opposed to more professional and practical application. That's all, no need to get all huffy! Lol! If you're still confused then feel free to ask and I will state is as clearly as I possibly can. Thanks again, Michelle |

Yes, it's a totally professional atmosphere. Many of the speakers have been in the gaming industry for years, and they've been called by God to create Christian games. This year, there was lots of info on distributing, marketing, and publishing; and on graphics techniques, programming, level design, choosing the right Engine, What makes a game "Christian", and How to balance family and business. Welcome to CCN. |
