Arrgg! Im ticking myself off! I want Bible memory to be a great game, with good gameplay, music, art, everything!!! Unfortuneately, I can't make music worth a bean, and my art skills lack... a lot of stuff.. the only thing I'm MODERATELY good at is programming, and even then i have bad case of procrastination, so its taking me forever!!! And heres the thing, i want to do it all by myself. I want to make great music, great art, and great programs with out help, because, well, frankly bible memory is my idea, and i feel like i sould be the only one working on it. This goes away in an instant when im working on a team project, (Such as PONG: FANTASY *not saying anything about that* or Bible Dave (even though I did next ot nothing on that) i can definently share, just with some of my more special game ideas, i really want them to be my own creations. I still can't make good art, and i still can't make music. but I want to be able to... *sigh*... ------------------ Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right. PM ME YOUR DESCRIPTION OF ME! I suffer from the same problem realm. It's not nessecessarily a bad thing. Buddboy's right, you might actually be very good at art and the other things, you just don't have the right resources or haven't tried yet. Just take some time and apply yourself to something new every once in a while. Apply yourself solely to 2D for a week or so, then do some research and work on some music for a week or so. Get good resources, ask around, and try hard, you may find you're more able than you thought at first. Progress will be slow in areas, but it will be steady, and before you know it things will begin to develop and take shape and you'll become better and better at the process as a whole. My advice, try hard, try constantly, and surround yourself with nice people of great skill and knowledge (especially in areas you're weak in, but also in areas you're strong in) who will encourage you and help you out when you're feeling down or annoyed. If there's anything I can help you with I'd be happy to do so. ~Ereon ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." Orc Outlaw, TES III Morrowind |

maybe he's hoping someone will convince him it's ok to have help. do you think any of the top game developers, or any software developers for that matter, work with 1 person teams? one person projects are either the equivelant of notepad, pong, etc... or they take a very long time and consume most of your time(several hours everyday, and 6-7 days a week). perhaps you should look at it as more of God's idea, but He gave you stewardship over it. ...just think about it. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

Eh, maybe it's just the project you're having trouble with? I have found when talking with people from here, like Crazyishone, about ideas I had he would give his input and we would brainstorm, and so actually by the end of the day we had both thought of something better than when I first brought the idea to him. People always see things differently than you, so when you present something they will see things you don't see and will be able to add their unique point of view to it. BTW, I would like to see what you got for Ithia, I might work on it if I like the ideas and such. @ Realm Art takes a loooong time to get good at, I have been drawing for probably 11 years and I still am growing in it. The problem is you are doing everything at once. If were to go and just write music you would kick butt on your project, if you were to just spend time and draw you would kick butt on the art aspect, and the same goes for programming. But you are diverting all of your talent on everything, instead on concentrating on one thing at a time, that's why teams do so well with games, because they all are adding one of their talents and concentrating it into one magnified burst. It's like you are all pieces of the puzzle, all doing what you do best at your best. ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited May 24, 2006).] |

I agree with Lava, but sometimes you have to make do with what you've got. It's hard to find good help that really cares about your project and the quality of it (not to mention their own work) as much as you do. ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." I think for alot of people, it comes down to motivation. Whether I pretend to be a hard working, dedicated person or not, the truth is still there. Most people lack motivation unless there's tangible and certain rewards. (I am one of them. Sure, I could tell somebody "hey, i'm with ya till the end", but I've failed at that before. :-p) When it comes down to it, nobody is going to care about your project as much as you do. (usually). And the only way to make sure that they keep up the work is to promise them something. Otherwise its going to come down to "do this {work} for some guy's game...or sit around and play games." RM, like lava said, just concentrate. To be honest, I don't think anybody here cares when you finish. So take your time, focus on the different aspects seperately. You don't have a deadline, so there's no need to sacrifice quality to put out the game sooner. ------------------ |
