Recently: Toyed with a bunch of source code from the Irrlicht engine examples. Threw together a quick test program to familiarize myself with implementing functions. Wrote a quick&safe shutdown batch file. Cracked a few small test apps' passwords as a learning experience. Screwed with/modded other people's games. (Alot of the games on blitz sites have completely unencrypted resources. ) Plan to: ----------------- Will the emo kids be my friends now? by "art of hacking" i assume you mean cracking, i.e. breaching security, rooting a box, getting past passwords, yada yada. this is really not what hacking is. A "hack" could be many things, you see, such as a quick patch to a software problem, or a temporary hardware solution. (CPU's post shows a few good examples. ) if you really want to be a "black hat hacker" (cracker) and kindof embody the media stereotype, go here. Basically script kiddie heaven. fun shtuff, just dont do anything illegal with the knowledge. Makes you look dumb. ------------------ Will the emo kids be my friends now? heh. It all depends one what it is, whether its local or remote, yada yada. i can't remember how far me and my cousin got on the basic website hacking on hackthissite.org ...it was around 4. as far as "hacks" according to the cpufreaks definition i have: i have: built several computers from scratch, and often from several old part from other computers. overclocked anything i could possibly figure out how to overclock(cpu, video cards) d/l rivatuner to my dad's dimension 9300 to see if i could overclock his geforce 6800 go graphics set up, and i can but i haven't as far as programming goes...i've made an annoying looping message box in vb6...but that's just lame. i want to: overclock a p4 past 5ghz sooo bad, but i can't afford a 3.4ghz or higher, i just want to get something that fast and completely stable. i guess i'm a hardware guy, not a software guy. main difference between me and most of the people here. i want to upgrade my dad's motherboard and memory to see how much i can overclock his 2ghz p4, the motherboard is suppose to allow me to up the voltage too, which should allow me to push it even further than i could in my old motherboard. i really really like building and tweaking pc's, i see a computer i haven't messed with before and i want to open it up and check it out...like "normal" guys do cars...anywho...rambling now...gotta go... ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs [This message has been edited by bennythebear (edited March 11, 2006).] |

The speed of the FSB is expressed as a frequency (it's clock speed) and commonly appears at 333,400,800 and now 1066MHz. Raisng the FSB is core to overclocking.) That hacking site looks interesting. cpufreak... unlocking can be done on older athlon processors...you can use pencil lead to connect 2 things on the cpu which "unlocks" the multiplier, thus you can overclock a cpu while keeping thing more stable since your not tampering with the fsb. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

well, i guess it could be, you could mess up when trying to make the connection and mess something up, or you could up your voltage to high. i wouldn't recommend doing something like this unless you're sure you can do it right, or you can live without your cpu . i haven't done this hack myself, since i cna't afford any computer parts right now, which is why i've got one nice machine, a dual 550 p3, and enough parts to build one or two more computers. i have 2 more socket 478 motherboards but no celerons or p4s to put into them, which stinks! i still haven't had a p4 with above a 400fsb, cpu's are too expensive. oh, has anyone checked out the 512mb geforce 6200 for $90something from tigerdirect.com ? i figured it'd be a nice upgrade from my 256 5200 which is ok, but i doubt i'll ever buy the latest video card out, i can get a copmuter or two for their prices. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

My latest hack was on a website for a friend who's starting an online business using Miva Merchant 4 (somewhat customizable, but it has definite and annoying limits). The built-in login script only affects the commerce part of the site; in other words, if you're not actually in the part of the site where you're picking products or paying for them, the login doesn't matter. Big problem: the user needs to, after purchasing a product, come back and log into a different part of the site, and be able to customize the product that they purchased. Anyway, I had to write my own login script in MivaScript (not a hard language, but it takes getting used to - it looks much like XML, but it's a scripting language. weird.), which, upon login, grabs the user's session id & ip address, stores it in the database, and with each protected page, checks that the user's info matches the sess_id & ip that was originally used to login. If it doesn't, it logs the person out. The most annoying thing was interacting with Miva's database; obviously if it was okay for the user to create a second login with different username & password, I wouldn't have to jump through all those hoops, and I would just write it in php/MySQL, but the idea was to let the customer use one id & password to access everything, and to do that required using MivaScript and Miva's database for the site. The site hasn't gone live yet, and I will probably not continue to be the site's developer (hopefully he'll raise more money and be able to hire someone more experienced than I am), but it was still a major personal accomplishment for me, and I learned a lot. If it's still in use when the site goes live, I hope it doesn't break. ------------------ |
