What is the best free firewall out there? I'm try out Kerio Personal Firewall now, and I have used mcafee in the past...

I use the firewall that came with Windows service pack 2 -- do you need one that does more than that?

My wife has used ZoneAlarm for years, and that worked very well for her (she uses the Windows firewall now as well).

Well you have to pay for windows firewall.
It comes with Windows XP (even if you upgrade to SP2 you still paid for SP1) so technically you have paid for it.

However that's not helpful.
I forgot about ZoneAlarm! Yes it's good to but you need to train it for accepting certain connections.

Sorry, I was assuming you were using XP.

Is this for Win2000 or Linux or something then?

And I believe you have to train all firewalls to accept certain connections before it will accept them -- that's kindof the point of firewalls. If you have a firewall with everything on by default, it's not a very protective firewall.

if you have an old pc and 2 nics available you can make a hardware firewall using smoothwall ...you can get it and all the info from http://www.smoothwall.org
