Just some news from Cnet thought let you now... XD although their 10 days old XD Court OKs Sony "rootkit" CD settlement
The suits were filed after the exposure of serious security risks to computers that had played one of dozen Sony CDs, which had copy protection software included. In the settlement, Sony has agreed to stop producing the CDs, and replace the purchased versions of the CDs with ones lacking copy protection. Consumers who bought one of the CDs will also be given the choice of receiving a cash payment of $7.50, and the rights to download one album online, or the ability to download three albums online. Sony had previously announced that it would recall all the affected CDs, and would replace the discs for consumers who had already purchased one. The settlement agreement was announced in late December. ------------------ |

Jeesh, they should at least provide some software to get rid of the root kit that is still on the comp after they recall the disks... ------------------ |

nope the unistaller made the things worse, here 's an article from foxnews --Sony BMG Rootkit 'Fix' Only Makes Things Worse--- BOSTON — The fallout from a hidden copy-protection program that Sony BMG Music Entertainment put on some CDs is only getting worse. Sony's suggested method for removing the program widened the security hole the original software created, researchers say. Microsoft windows antispyware can block it and remove it without destroying your pc(and as i recall they have a stand - alone tool that does this) XD also adaware and some others can remove it too... ------------------ |
