I will try to be unbiased at least for the first part of this review(lol) anyway here it stands on its own:
On Graphics:
Very good, almost as good as LOTR's (and that's saying quite a bit) They (according to disney) use real animals for many of the scenes and when the animals talk they use CG (the blue screen).
Audio:
Truly breathtaking, they grip you just as in LOTR.
Now for the meat of it all:
The Chronicles of Narnia show the true meaning of Christmas: That Jesus died for everyone that they might be saved from their sins and go to be with him in heaven. (That is if you look at it from C.S. Lewis point of view) It truly is a masterpiece of his imagination in being able to incorporate the message of Christ into his world of Narnia. That is at first draped in death and shadow of ice and stone. In the end it comes to life with green leaves and springling smells after Aslan gives up his life for the one that betrayed them all as a traitor. sighs. The traitor comes back to his brother and two sisters forgiven: For what is done is done. What need more be said, go and watch, you will enjoy...... and cry.
Because I know I did.
In Christ,
Valkyri

i wasn't going to watch the movie when i first heard about it, it just didn't sounds interesting to me. but i also didn't know it was suppose to be a Christian themed movie, so i might check it out to see how it goes about doing this. personally i think the gospel should be presented strait up, blunt, frank, any other words that have that meaning. but i'll keep my trap shut, because i do NOT want to get into a big theological debate. anywho...

a story, however, that gives an allegory would better help us understand what goes on.

I mean, Jesus used parables very frequently to express points. I believe stories are a great way to convey truths.

EDIT: not to start a debate... ah, forget it. why do I bother. I'm a debate addict.

hi, I'm tim and I'm an addict...

I Can't wait to go see this movie! I read the books when I was 10-12 and loved them. I believe my family is planning on seeing it when our relatives are here for Christmas. I am DEFINITELY looking forward to it!

although everyone thinks Chronicles of Narnia is an allegory its not.

Lewis set out to write chronicles based on the question he asked himself "what would it be like if there was a world were animals could talk, all of the fantastic creatures I love from fairy tales existed.. and God had to save that world from sin, as he had to save ours.

The story is often mistaken for allegory because it so closely resembles the gospel story of Jesus. However, this is because Lewis essentially came to the conclusion that the sacrifice Jesus made was the only logical, possible way of saving from sin in any world.

it sounds like a cool movie. ok arch, Jesus did use parables i know, Christ dieing on the cross wasn't a parable, and shouldn't be told in a parable, because people need to understand the gospel. but yeah, i believe movies like this do get people thinking about God and things of that nature, so it is a useful tool, but it's not the gospel.

Where do i start...? I am gonna see Narnia today!! I think that Bennythebear is right that in it is good but that it's not the gospel. But I have to say that Jesus did use parables (Arch!!) and that this might open up a door for someone to be told the gospel. Because I mean some people won't listen to the gospel but they will go see this movie.. Simon_templar you are right!! It's not an allegory its what Lewis called supposal... That what happened would be what would had happened supposing Narnia was real and that it needed saving and that Aslan was like Christ... It's an interesting concept... I loved the books and hope I will love the movie (most likely will)!!

did there use to be a television series of this? it seems so familar, but i don't think it was called narnia. something along the line of "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe." who knows...maybe it's my childhood memories getting all blurred together and distorted, often happens to me.

No... I don't think there was a tv show... But i'm probably not old enough to remember one (i'm fourteen TODAY!!).. But i remember i used to have an animated movie of the first book (Lion Witch and the Wardrobe)... But i was sick once and my mom was gonna put it on (it was my favorite) but she dropped it and it broke... Oh well... I just saw the movie and it was AWESOME!! I really liked the battle scenes and the beavers weren't too shabby...

Yes there was a TV show, originally from BBC, it came to PBS. They showed it a long time ago, I remember watching it on TV on PBS, and I even have the videos from the Wardrobe, Silver Chair and Prince Caspian\Dawn Treader productions.

Welcome to CCN Buddyboy! I stayed up last nite reading the magicians nephew for the first time and in my opinion i bet they will be doing that as a sequal. I hope that thats what happens anyway. Either way considering what a good job they did on this one it will all probably be good.<IMG SRC="http://www.christiancoders.com/icons/icon3.gif">

out of over 10 critics it gets a rating of about 78/100
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/lionthewitchandthewardrobe

Some people give it a bad taring like 38/100 and some give it 100/100. Maybe the ones that hate it are non christians and hate that people try to spread the religion?

Some negative comments about it are:
"Narnia is ineptly acted, crudely staged and burdened with a score that only a masochist could love. "
"The problem with any allegorical plan, Christian or otherwise, is not its ideological content but the blockish threat that it poses to the flow of a story."
"The movie is a leaden, slow-moving beast. "
"Overlong, poorly paced and woodenly acted film. "

Some good are:
"A generation-spanning journey that feels both comfortingly familiar and excitingly original."
"Plunges into an imaginative landscape as large as all creation - and never slackens its barreling pace or shrinks its panoramic scope."
"A movie of intelligence and power, of beauty, universality and largeness of spirit. "

Actually I heard Prince Caspian will be next, I also heard the script is already written for it.

EDIT:

This isn't the best site but here is an article on IGN FilmForce:

Actually I have been a member of CCN for a while... probably not as long as you guys you were around when I joined... But i barely posted and I have been away for a long time... But i decided to come back and look around... And i liked being with Christians and coders... And yah they will make Caspian next cuz i think they are going with the order people usually read them in... I don't know why people are going to give it bad reviews... I saw it and i can't see how it would be anything but awesome even from a secular perspective... of course nothing is liked by everybody... About that tv show thing... whats funny is that BBC also made movies of the books awhile back.. When i lived in Florida we checked them out of the library and they were nowhere near as good as this one that just came out... Surprise surprise!!

Yeah, I am probably thinking of the movies, even though the TV show episodes were shown on TV they had the length of movies, and they were made like movies also.

I have seen the film twice in the last two days now

It is great, very well done! I have only one or two very small complaints.. not even worth mentioning.

awesome movies.

the people who made the bad reviews for the movie didn't actually see it.
yeah... they, uh, walked into the wrong theater and were reviewing Brokeback Mountain.
