ok. just because i activated windows xp on 2 different computers, now i can't activate it on the original computer, or any other computer. i set up xp on my cousins computer for him using my copy of xp, but my cousin has his own copy of xp now. so if my system crashes i'm up the creek without a paddle. if i could play my games on linux i would so never use microsoft for personal use anymore. the only thing microsoft is doing with their anti-pirating crap is making the people who have enough computer knowledge to switch to linux want to switch. linux is free, almost all of it's applications are free...can anyone explain to me why i'm still sitting here using this crap???

because you sold your soul to microsoft when you purchased windows.

I mean, has anybody really fully read the EULA agreement? I'm telling you.. it's in there.

It's even more boring than the Sun, BSD and GNU ones.

You can change which machine is using which Windows product key by following the instructions at the following site:

http://www.mike-devlin.com/windows/key.htm

Note that you'll likely have to phone into Microsoft support during the process and explain the situation to them, but since it's a straight swap between two machines, there shouldn't be a problem.

The Mac OS dousn't have to be registerd or any of that crap. You "can" install it on as many comps as you want. You just aren't supposed to.

Sounds like their anti-pirating stuff works.

Not that I blame them, piracy is a big problem.

Games. Unfortunately, the best games in the world only run on Windows. If it weren't for games, I could do a complete transition to Linux.

exactly cobra...if it wasn't for games linux would be on my comp right now. i think i'll stick with having one computer set up for games, and then everything else will either be running linux, or mac os, if i ever get a mac that is.

Linux is great, but everything (like games) run on windows...
STUPID MONOPOLY...
you could look for an app to crack the registration code...
I saw one somewhere...
on limewire I think...
not that I would trust a random .exe...

there are programs for linux that allow u to run stuff intended for windows. basically windows emulators. i believe one of them is called Qemu or something like that.

The result is the same, though: You can get some Windows programs to run under Linux. Unfortunately, Windows is a complex beast, so it's difficult to virtualize/emulate everything, so not everything runs well under WINE.

I do look forward to future progress, though. Unfortunately, progress may be a bit set back when Vista comes out .
