ok. i installed my wife's copy of xp on my comp(let me finish before you start in on me), and windows of course rooked that as soon as i went to updates(stupid move on my part). now i can't get any copy of xp to install on my comp. the only reason i want to put xp on my computer is to run pcmark 2005 and 3dmark 2005 with my computer running stock, and then run it again with everything overclocked to see what kind of performance gain i'm actually getting. then i intend on putting linux back on it, as i have no use for xp to be on it, nor do i have $100 to spend getting another copy of xp. i do not intend on using one copy of xp on every computer, i just want to test the machine out and get some actual numbers. anywho, does anyone know how i can get xp back on it, like i said, i've tried other copies of xp too. it might just be hardware problems, but i think windows has something to do with it, and the hard drives has been reformatted since linux is now running on it. could they have wrote something to the mbr?

i do not think microsoft would dare messing with users' master boot record...so I will assume that it was you who messed something up. I mean, would they even THINK about doing someting intentional to prevent you from installing Windows...naahhhh..

am...perhaps you should get one of those progs for linux distros that is basically just a windows emulator, then run those programs you spoke about fromm the "emulator"....or w/e they call it. (if you cant tell, i dont know much about linux just yet... )

I think you're talking about a program called qemu.

And yeah, Benny, I would recommend wiping your system, installing Linux of some flavor (doesn't matter what flavor, as long as it reformats everything including the MBR), then you could probably install Windows XP again no sweat.

Cheers!

i know what the problem was, fedora core 3!!! apparently it does something (prob'ly unintentional) that won't allow the windows xp loader to boot. my proof is the exact same thing happened to my cousin on his laptop. but i popped in ubuntu and installed it, and now i'm currently intalling xp on that comp...anyone know what may have cause this weird glitch?
