I used to watch anime(digimon) but now I can't stand it, its just awful in my opinion... why? well American cartoons are really just dumb(no real point to them) but anime just over does the plot. If you watched digimon they would always always come up against some enemy, can't defeat it in round one and then conviently discover a new and better form of their digimon while all of the other characters act like ragnorok(in a good sense) is coming. I mean you could say what will come out of their mouths 3 scenes before they actually said it ie 5 min.

Digimon is a horrible example, and a shame to anime... to put it bluntley, digimon sucks. I used to watch it when i was younger, but not ever anymore. Now i mostly watch Full Metal Alchemist (Dude, thats probably the best show ever aired! well, that and Invader Zim...)

lol, never watched Full Metal Alchemist, but heard it was great. I love anime, at least the less adult oriented stuff, because anime/manga can get pretty bad for several different reasons... but anyway my favorite anime is Rurouni Kenshin, AKA Samurai X (Which is what my avvy for the competition was, it was a pic of Kenshin in case no one else knew that.) but anyway, I remember when I used to watch Pokemon, lol... gee do I regret wasting that time now, lol. But yeah I would not have a problem if newspapers began adopting anime, I think there are certain parts of Japan that need to take over, and some parts that should not, but those already have.

my friend and I did an awesome pic based on ruroni kenshin. we worked on it in science class for like.....2 weeks getting it just right. then he took it to a friend and got it digitally colored etc.... basicaly photoshopped the crap out of it. lol.

either way, both the photoshopped image and the original hand drawn looked amazing.

Yeah, I want to sketch a poster size pic of him, and hang it on my wall. He is SOO cool! I have always been inspired by heroes like that, mostly superheroes, but he was the most realistic and logical one, so yeah, lol... I have a sense of justice from the hero shows, at least says my dad. But I do not see that as a complete bad thing, lol, it better then having a sense of justice coming from the actual 'in'justice system here in the States... no offense to anyone who loves this government, lol.

I persnally like Anime, fav would be Trigun and GunGrave. (same guy made the two, too). haha. have a little model of Wolfwood holding his cross gun. too kewwwl...
digimon and pokemon I would not even consider as anime, tho. lol. Full Metal Alchemist is okay. don't care too much for Inuasha. not too much into that kind of anime.
with expections, of course.

strangely attracted to Lupin the Third.

and who can forget Superbook, the only Christian anime... why, oh why does it have to be childish? *thinks* oh... well.

hmm.. this reminds me to watch that new FF movie.. Advent Childrean

SuperBook....haha, I used to watch that.

Most people I know are into more ....serious...anime. MOst of the shows they watch do not contain the stereotypical kiddie anime stuff.

Digimon, pokemon, and yu gi oh are mocked. Gungrave is awesome. Contrary to much anime, the gungrave artists give the people very **small** heads. usually heads in anime/manga are disproportionately large. :P

it is. and the "doe" eyes referred to in the article are basically nonexistent in gungrave. I used to watch Gungrave on demand from the G4 section.

i've never been an anime die-hard, but i think it's got its place. There is alot of comedy-based anime. I personally feel that anime and manga are much better mediums for drama and sci-fi/action in the "cartoon" world, whereas western cartoons are usually more fit to western comedy. We just don't find the asian stuff as funny. Maybe to them, seeing a student blurt out something rude to a teacher then panic over it is hillarious, cuz its like "I can't BeLieve they just did that!" Here, that happens all the time, and just isnt funny. Conversely, here seeing a person slurp their food might draw a laugh or two, but in ...Japan, for instance, if you don't slurp, they think you didn't like the food.

In my opinion 99% of anime is crap. The major problem I find with it is that it is too overproduced. It becomes almost to the point where every half-wit and their brother tries to draw anime. My point can quickly be proved if you take a travel over to www.elfwood.com and look at the random pictures. Anime has potential to be good, but if you asked me it takes tremendous effort to get it that way, and only skilled people manage it. If you put that much work into anime and making it good you'd better off be putting that much work into a photorealizm project or something which is much more benificial in the long run.

stank, i have to agree with you there. Almost every asian kid draws manga/anime and all that stuff, not to mention the hordes of white kids who are all wrapped up in their yu gi oh. I have nothing against strange hobbies (trust me ), but you guys know the kind of people im talking about.

I think anime is really great, and that the idea of having it in the US newspapers is great too. Anime is another type of art, that the recent generations have found very appealing. If you've watched any of the really good animes that are in Japan, they have just as good story/lessons that are shown in american television. Pokemon/Digimon, yeah they're anime... but geared towards children. I personally think the concepts are really good.

Also, when anime is brought over to america, it is revised. A good example is Naruto. I watch the Japanese version with English sub-titles. It's an awesome anime. Great character development, has comical parts (even to an american stand-point) although, there will be some that we may not find funny. Recently when I saw Naruto on YTV, they edited a lot. There's hardly any blood( not that there was much to begin with ), and they have edited out some scenes. Which makes the anime dull.

Another reason why I hear people don't like anime, is the fact that the hero, is always weak - gets beat by some character. Then gains some power to be able to demolish the enemy next time. Yeah, it can get a little predictable, and how should I say this... corny. But keep in mind, the japanese have been through a rough time. And they are possibly the only post-apocalyptic culture. Whether intentional or not, they find the theme of the smaller character rising up to match/overcome a greater power is how they have been living.

If you do research on anime history and how it came to America, that too is interesting.
Personally, I think anime has better characters/plot than most american shows. With any type of show, there will be bad ones, and there are the really good ones. I've just found more anime shows with better meaning than american shows.
