ok. does anyone know of an application that will allow me to burn copyrighted cd's? i would like to back up my games, so when the original cd get's scratched up enough to not work i can still play my game...i'm not planning on pirating software, if that was the case i wouldn't have posted it here

erm, can't they all? did that with halo once, it took a while for it to break the encryption, but now I have a copy of it(which won't let me do online play though...)

I tried coping an entire disk to my hard disk, and then putting it onto a cd-rw, but that didn't work for some reason..

Haha.

Threads here just have a tendency to spontaneously combust or die, almost with a life of their own. You didn't kill the topic, you just happened to post last.

hmmmm, thats odd every time I have ever copied an entire game disc to my hard and then installed from the hard drive to the hard drive it worked. Course I usually lost a couple of megs in the process though. You must have lost too many. It's been trial and error for me.

I've heard that: http://www.alcohol-soft.com/ is supposed to be good, haven't used it myself however.

I don't see why you would need a special program to copy a cd, it shouldn't be that hard to transfer each and every bit to your hd and then put each and every bit back onto a cd rw..

i'm d/l the trial of the alcohol software right now, hopefully it works out right, then when i can get the money i'll buy it. does anyone know of the software that a company names something like 3-2-1 studios made...i think that's they're name, they allowed for the burning of dvd movies and everything, but they also were put out of business because of it, so i'd have to hunt on ebay and such for it.

yah, i ran into a similar problem yesterday. I copied the discs to hd, installed from directly from the HD, then it wouldnt let me play. So i tried burning allll the contents of the play disc to a cd, but at the last second of the burn, it errored on me. i figured it was some kind of securityt feature...one that can be broken, i just dont hasve the time right now.

don't know how they can make any real form of security, because in order for the game to work, you computer has to be able to read it, and if your comp can read it then you should be able to copy it onto another disc right? or is it deeper then that?

its encrypted. (copy protected )

so i went and dl'd alcohol and it will work once i get to that disc again.

and no, it wont work to just copy all the files. thats what i tried first, but....ech. u havnt been able to boot games without a play disc for like 3 years now. its too bad.

progs like alcohol make it so that u can at least copy the disc. it handles the encryption.

I think when it comes to cds that it is impossible to make them "unpirateable" with out making the game unplayable.

its all in the encryption. They make it so that the game can be read and played; but it cant be read, copied, re-written, then played. Im not sure what they call that, but basically the algorithm doesnt work both ways.

most software such as Alcohol needs to be updated in order to do its job, as game encryption gets stronger. It'll never balance out tho, cuz every time som1 makes someting secure, some1 else figures out how to break the security. :P
