I want to know how you became programmers and how you got to this site.
First, in third grade, I was in a high math class. I got a chance to be in Horizans. (gifted program for reading and writing) I got accepted. The first day, we got Mac X laptops. Awesome. I learned all about it. Soon, I started exploring every type of computer I knew. But then, only last January this year, I saw a class that I could take to learn programming. I didn't know that that class would change my life forever. On the day the class began, the teacher explained Blitz Basic and gave us GPFT. The class was 7 weeks long(on sundays). Actaully, I just read from GPFT he gave me. On thw lats 2 days he gave us time to program a game. So, I made my first Game, "Super Balls"(Worst game in the world.)(On another note, a kid there pointed me to fruity loops 3 for music. And the teacher pointed me to techno music maker) So now I was still learning advanced stuff in BlitzBasic, I went to maneesh's website. (I bought Blitz then too...) He poitned out blitzcoder.com. When I go tthere, it said it had closed down and to got to codersworkshop. So there I stayed for about 3 months. Then I post came from xzider there to join a team. I joined as the music artist. There, I met realm_master at the xelev forums. In his sig, it directed me here. I joined up. Well, now I was pretty good with BlitzBasic. I saw another class I can take by the teacher that taught me Blitz. He was offering Blitz3D classes. I took them(while I was trying to learn Blitz3D by myself.). So, I learned the baics of Blitz3D. He also told me he might offer a c++ class soon.(I might take it to see what it offers...) (Also, we played unreal GOTY whcih got me hooked on unreal..)

I got interested in programming when a family in the Homeschool group I belong to had a class for game programming, I thought it was awesome. We did visual basic, and made a simple, unrefined version of brickblaster. Then we made a lego car and used oopic to program what it was supposed to do, after making the circuit board for it and everything. Right now I am learning C++, and working on AAE's first game 'Kings of Ethristah'. I do not know how I came to this site, but I stumbled on here, and thought it was a great community, and an awesome place to share my ideas (With no worry of theft of them). So I joined and even with some arguments, I still think this is the best community on the net. ------------------ [This message has been edited by gamer4christ (edited September 24, 2005).] |

I never thought I'd ever be saying that I actually had an interested in all this stuff, lol, funny how things change, lol. My interest only started in the last 2 years or so, with meeting G4C and hearing him talk about all his game programming stuff and all. I wanted to be able to, if nothing else, carry on a conversation about it all with him and be able to understand things and everything. Well, before long I was helping him come up with new ideas for games, and the gaming stuff filled quite a few of our conversations. I finally borrowed a book from him on the game industry recently and read it in like... a few days or so... I found it very interesting, and it made me realize how much I've really gotten into all this (especially when my Mom would make a comment about something that had to do with a game or something and I'd correct her.... right... I only used to do that with horse stuff....). I found this site through G4C who told me he'd posted his game idea on here and was getting a lot of good feedback, he eventually gave me the link and it wasn't very long before I started to join in =) ------------------ Proverbs 22:1 |

My programming Aunt Came down from the USA to visit us. I asked her how programs work. She gave me a weak example and then gave me Programming for the Absolute Beginner which was a QBASIC book. I gobbled it up in 4 months and did some interesting programs. But I got bored with QBASIC and then stopped programming for about 8 months. One of my best friend's older brother told me about this game we was making. He told me how a buddy of his was writing a game engine for his Myst style game, but in Python. He gave me a Python In a Nutshell ebook, but I couldn't understand it so I put it on the "shelf". I went to www.python.org and joined their mailing list. The helpful people on the Tutor mailinglist gave me links to free ebooks and I strated to pick up python. learning that my Python In a Nutshell ebook was illegal, I deleted it off my HD and combed the internet for tutorials and other freee ebooks. I heard a ton about linux and bought Red Hat Linux for dummies (it included a cdrom). Linux helped program better (more stable and resourcefull) plus I learned a lot about open source (which I write all of my programs) and joined the couse of pushing OSS. My friend mention CCN (his nick is outcast) and that's how I got here. I never would have been able to be where I am if it wasn't for the Tutor Mailing list, Linux, Graynod, My Aunt, and Open Source Software... to which of all I am very greatfull. I think God wants me to code... because all the puzzle pieces couldn't have fit together like this. ------------------ [This message has been edited by CPUFreak91 (edited September 24, 2005).] |

Well, my story is kind of an inverse of yours. I have always been alot more interested in technology than my....peers. I had been thinking about the creation of games for a very long time. Even Back in 4th grade my friend and I were coming up with these big ideas for games.... Well, the dreaming continued for a long time, until in my eight grade laptop class, my friend and I got soo bored that we figured out a way to make primitive text based games using Microsoft Word. We talked about how awesome it would be to know how to write the code behind the stuff. That summer, I went to church camp and came back really fired up. I wanted to create games...but I also wanted to create Godly content. I stumbled upon GameMaker, and soon found CCN through various google searches (I was doing my research.) After coming here and realizing that writing the code for games was actually do-able, i began to ask (very noobly) questions. Thanks to the guys here I got sent in the right path. I am now intermediately skilled in HTML/CSS (i know, i know, not a language.. :P) and am attempting to learn C++. I would like to thank the guys at CCN who helped me out a year ago, instead of flaming me. (I noticed that alot of those guys don't post much anymore.... ...) ------------------ |

who: me what: Vic 20 and Commmodore 64 & Basic where: Kmart in Conyers, GA somewhere on a store shelf & a few were plugged in and connect to monitors or tvs with cartriges plugged in. when: '83 '84 ? how: goofing around while my parents where shopping. Snotty nosed, bare foot and red clay caked, I would always run fast to the 'computer' section (back then I think they were crammed on the same shelf with luggage) and play text adventure games (pirate's cove? zork?) and write cheesy little basic programs or write 'poke' commands to change the screen color..so cool! kiddy nerd heaven for back then!
1) did a search on 'christian games' [This message has been edited by coolj (edited September 24, 2005).] |

my dad has a PhD in Computer Science, and so naturally, he introduced me to programming. began with VB. I really liked it. started to channel my love of creating things into CS. unfortunately, my laziness is doing a great job combatting it. ------------------ |

i got started into computers simply because my dad bought one when i was 10 or 11(94-96), and i started playing on it. i started spending a lot of time online in chat rooms(aol), then found out about punters, which got me into html(so i could punt people manually), which then got me into vb(so i could make my own punter/proggie), but unfortunately my skills have not yet advanced beyond very basic vb. my knowledge on programming/networking/computer repair and just about everything to do with personal computers has increased, but no expert(employable) knowledge in anything(except repair). how did i get to Christiancoders.com you ask, i got here by someone who played a game called runescape. they had a Christian group/clan in the game, and he had a link to this site from the clan page. his name was something like 'dr pepper'. hope that made sense... ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |
