well, there are alot of spammers who will pose as Paypal (very convincingly too) and could take advantage of your account. (like if you sign in through one of their links) I think alot of the complaints are due to that and not paypal itself. ------------------ |

Most of the people on there probably just gave away there souls without reading feedback or anything. Safe or not you HAVE to be certain who you're dealing with. When I ordered something from a guy in Germany I spend a good 2 weeks investigating this guy before even concidering dealing with him since it was a personal transaction and not ebay orientated or of that sort. If you enter your credit card # and distribute your account info. its your own fault. People have to take their own faults instead of throwing them in a company's face. ------------------ |

hmm...i just don't know about this site. I've used PayPal since Dec. 27, 2001 - that's 3 years 8 months and 10 days (as of today). I've never had any problems with them and I've had several thousand dollars in my PayPal account at a time. I do recieve those pesky fraud emails every once in a while, but I just check the links and see what email address it came from. Then, if it's PayPal or not, I forward it to spoof@paypal.com where they check into every email to let their customers know if it's a fraudulant email or not. I went ahead and filled out the information on the "Free Merchant Account" links that PayPalWarning.com kept pushing. I did some research on both domain names too. I'm still not sure if either site is trustworthy, but I didn't have to enter any information into the free merchant account website that's not public knowledge - although the actual form wasn't on the domain name, it redirected me to an IP address...also very fishy! The last page of the weird, IP address website said the following... If it is truly a FREE merchant account, why is it on an IP address? Why isn't it more popular? If I don't get an email within the next 24 hours I'm going to call the phone number listed in the WHOIS database for the domain name. MastaLlama ------------------ |

ok, I'm still not sure about this. First off the link sent me to free-merchant.com, then I was redirected to an IP address ( 64.78.9.207 ), then I FINALLY got the email (1.5 hours later..what's that about? Doesn't sound automated to me) from MerchantLane.com with a link on it to "Complete Merchant Account" but the link is for onlineapp.cardservice.com. So, three domains and an IP address later, they now want my Social Security Number and Bank Account Number. Now, I know to setup a Merchant Account, this information is needed. As of right now I'm not going to fill the rest of this out, I'm going to do a little research and see exactly who I'm submitting this PRIVATE information to. MastaLlama ------------------ |

Should you be showing your code to people? Anyway I think Citibank has one online but I am not sure. I would rather deal with a real bank that goes with the laws than with paypal that is not regulated. Here is another site I found Maybe we should make a Christian paypal where we do not take interest since that is not Christian like and not to take percentage. Any programmers here. lol [This message has been edited by warsong (edited September 06, 2005).] |

hey warsong, I'm not worried about my code, the next form has a bunch of specific items in the querystring and requires that I enter a bank account number and my social security number...I don't think anybody will have all 3 pieces of that puzzle.

I hate those fake paypal emails. I dont even have an account. its...aaaggh. yep. paypal seems to be a very usefull service...and with greater populartiy of a service comes the discovery of more ways to exploit its weakness. Its an inevitable evil. ------------------ |

quote: Look for your name in the email. If the email says: Dear PayPal User or something like that, it's spam. Paypal will also never ask you for your username and password. ------------------ |
