ok. i have a computer with the following specs. : cpu: pentium mmx 233Mhz here's the problem. i upgraded the memory by 96mb, giving me a total of 112mb(64 + 32 + 16), which sounds really funny to me. but anyway, the motherboard and bios accepted it just fine, but now windows won't boot. it said i need to use the 98 cd to fix the problem, but unfortunately i don't have the cd. i got this computer from my buddy, and it had windows 98 on it. please help! ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

well, you could always search haigh and low for a pirated copy...or you can look on eBay and i can assure you that you will find it for a nice price there. i checked for you and i am seeing various versions for under $40, and alot of it is only 10-20 bux at the moment. ------------------ [This message has been edited by crazyishone (edited August 14, 2005).] |

Have you tried to take the new ram out and see if it will boot?? You might not have the right ram for it. If it boots with the old 16mb ram then its your new ram. Also take out the old ram and put in the new ram. If it boot with just the new ram, then the ram is right but the two ram might not be compatable with each other.Kinda like if the mother board will take pc100 and pc133 ram but if there is a pc100 in it and you bought a stick of pc133 for the board, the two ram could have conflicks. Some ram wont clock down. So that could be one reason why it accept the ram but wont bootup cause there is conflick with the two rams. Just a thought. God bless you. No post beeps? Most likely a software problem then hardware in that case... if you got another version of windows why don't you just format? ------------------ |

i'm %99.9 sure it's a hardware problem. i have a copy of xp, but i'm trying to keep things legal, and 98 doesn't require as much horsepower to run. it might be a hardware issue, but if the motherboard will recognize and boot it, shouldn't windows run smoothly? this is stupid. i like old computers, but man they're a hassle. at least i'm not trying to fix windows 3.11 on an old 386...that would suck... ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs [This message has been edited by bennythebear (edited August 14, 2005).] |

Usually a hardware issue will prompt postbeeps which you can diagnose from there. I basically know what you're going through right now though, I'm almost done building a PIII 650 out of random parts in my house. It just needs a hard-drive and I'm good to go. ------------------ |
