My name has to do with the little known fact that something like 85 percent of all known worlds in the Galaxy, be they primitive of highly advanced, have invented a drink called jynnan tonnyx, or gee-N-N-T'N-ix, or jinond-o-nicks, or any one of a thousand or more variations of the same phonetic theme. The drinks themselves are not the same, and vary between Sivolvian "chinanto/mnigs" which is ordinary water served at slightly above room temperature, and the Gagrakackan "tzjin-anthony-ks" which kills cows at a hundred paces; and in fact the one common factor between all of them, beyond the fact that the names sound the same, is that they were invented and named before the worlds concerned made contact with any other world. (Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) I'm not trying to promote drinking, or even gin & tonics, which are a bit strong, and most people I know don't like them. If you've never had one, it's been described to me as tasting something like burnt pine needles in icy carbonated water. In fact, I think gin is made from juniper leaves, but anyway, it was a name I picked for a handle back in the old Compuserve number days, and it's been my usual one ever since.
