as i have been here almost a year (minus the months i was grounded, lol), i have noticed alot of newcomers that come, drop a few posts, and never return. i took a look at the members list and i was shocked to see how many members were under 20 posts..... i engourage you peepl new to the forum to stick it out and get to know the people..it is worht your while. you can get alot of tech help here on almost any subject, and moral support is in no shortage. There are sites out there that ive signed up for just to leave a post or two. Trust me, this isnt one of those sites. There is alot you can benefit from here...so keep to your posts and follow those threads that interest you. You will fit in no time...lol. (so corny, but soo tru.) ------------------ |

You have to find places that you fit into. I've joined a few sites and then left shortly afterwards, because it had no stickability for me. I only really came back here when I saw all the Linux threads, hence why i usually only post on those topics --D-SIPL ------------------

Hello, well I am trying to stick it out around here but this place seems to be more geared toward game programming then anything else and I am not a game programmer. Although I am into graphics like skinning applications etc. Well, god bless you all. |

That is true, i've always seen this as more of a christian game programmers site. --D-SIPL ------------------

Can't we make it more than just a game programming forum? It is the Christian Coders Network afterall. From this point on, should anyone have questions envolving HTML, ASP, ActionScript, JavaScript, VBScript or VB, feel free to ask me! MastaLlama ------------------ http://www.jeremysouthard.org |

Maybe the forums need more categories for different programming languages etc? --D-SIPL ------------------

well. there is alot of knowledge here...as a collective group i dont think there is any tech question that cant be answered... so, really, if ive ever wondered something, i just submit a reply asking the question...or i start a new thread.... If you dont know where to put the thread, general discussions is always a good place to start. new categories could make it more organized tho.... hey...btw...i think we should welcome the newset member "ihateyourgod"....or maybe we shouldnt welcome him..... ------------------ [This message has been edited by crazyishone (edited August 11, 2005).] |

I was a lurker here for a year or two for the very reason I thought this site was geared towards game programming. In the time before I joined I noticed more questions/topics which simply discussed Java, C++, etc. and now see this site as more than just game programming. It just seems many of the members want to program games. Those topics are intersting for me to read, but I don't really have much input as I have no background in game programming. Game playing...yes, but not programming. |

perhaps we could find a nice, gentle mod and ask them to create a new section on the forum for Programming, then break it up into languages or something like that. I'm also a lllooonnnggg time member at Experts-Exchange and there's tons of people on that site. All the questions are point based and ranked and all this. I'm not suggesting CCN go that far, but there are a few pieces of functionality that could be helpful. For example, on EE, if someone posts to a thread that I created, I get an email saying so. Anyway, if some nice, gentle mod decides to add another area to the CCN forum for different programming languages, I'd suggest checkin' out how EE has the (as they call it) Topic Areas divided up. In fact, there's an entire area devoted to Game Development on EE, not that I'm trying to sway CCN members away...hee hee http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Game_Development/ MastaLlama ------------------ [This message has been edited by MastaLlama (edited August 12, 2005).] |

I make mostly educational games, but also have worked on making some other types of software. So I felt comfortable enough with discussion of games, but I do think talking about other areas would be good, because surely "coders" is not just "game coders". I've learned quite a bit from CCN, saw helpful tips on development tools etc., and even contracted to make a port of an existing Christian game as a result of this forum! And the game developers conference--haven't been to one, but I've seen some news written on the last one and that's pretty impressive. I would say, stick around and start to add some discussions of other types of projects besides games. There are also very fun discussions here sometimes on just about any imaginable topic so why not other programming topics? I hope to make a successful utility application someday. Curry |

I'm willing to bet that the new comers that just come make a few post's and split are actually members using new names to help make a point they was trying to on a certian subject. Or one makes a reply and states their oppinion and gets slammed and made to look the fool so they leave. I dont get on much here any more. Which makes my replies few and far inbetween which probably is another reason for some members posts down. Oh and at times, if one isnt into coding. One can get the cold shoulder. ------------------ |
