What is your favorite aspect of a game? What are games' common weaknesses? What are games' common strengths? |

I like the plot of the story... most games are weak in user interactivity...it would be awesome to have a platform game where you control everything in the game...well, not everything... ------------------ |

Alternate endings, based on your choices, like if you play as good/evil, and NPC's/enemies with lots of personality. |

I'm a little unsure, games with too much control in the hands of the gamer can either become cumbersome or annoying because I really enjoy exploring every aspect of the games I play. For instance, FF7 I could beat in say a couple of hours. However, I enjoy finding all of the little hidden items, materia, weapons, etc. placed by the game developers that it takes me 100+ hours to actually beat the game! I agree with ArchAngel, RTS's need big big armies (but I despise 3D RTS because they slow down the gameplay and have less ability to create such awesome and mighty armies with plenty of mayhem) FPS have to be fast (but I love creepiness like HL2) FPS + Camera never screws up RTS + big armies, mayhem, upgrading, slightly customizable, no play restrictions RPG + customizable, played mostly by those with intelligence, they just roxors! Yeah, any questions? |

hey.. I like 3d rpgs! lol. but yes, they tend to have smaller armies. however, I came to love the 3d feel. ahh, Sonice the Hedgehog! that game is greatest sidescroller (2)! RPG FPS RTS Turn Based Strategy ------------------ |

"Turn Based Strategy strength: challenging to the mind weakness: can really suck. I mean, the best one is Master of Orion 2, and that's around 9 years old. come on people, let's come out with another good one!" All you need is like 50 cc's of Heroes of Might and Magic II (not the rpgs), that game is older than time itself but it still OOOOooowwwnzzz. |

quote: have you played star wars: knights of the old republic? i thought that game's story line rocked, it should've been made into a movie, i think it would've been a lot better than the other 6 they put out. plus, i think there's like 4 possible ending, 2 evil, and 2 good. i still haven't played the 2nd one, which i think has been out a while(?). ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

I like most types of games I guess.. I'll list my favorites from each genre RTS RPG (single player) FPS MMORPG
Another of my favorite games is the "total war" series.. it doesn't fit really well into any of the catagories. It has two aspects.. a board game in which you govern an empire and its territories and conquer more territory.. and the individual battle which are fought on 3d terrain with units of troops (rather than a bunch of individuals in a mob like RTS). The battles are the closest to real wargamming of any computer game I've played. ------------------ |

My favorite part of a game is definately gameplay. Fun factor is good stuff. Though I hate anything in a game that is just a time waster. Collecting stuff can be like that. It can be a pain in the butt if I have to go out of my way just to collect stuff that I missed because I need to collect all of a certain item to continue the game. Major pain. Collecting stuff can be fun, but not if it means playing for hours on end searching for something just so I can continue the game. It is how it is presented I think. I don't mind games like Jak and Daxter. Actually I rather enjoyed it quite a lot. It is how the gameplay is applied I suppose. Good level flow is good too. I don't like games that expect perfection for fun to be had, but I like room for improvising and using my mind (yet not expecting me to be a genious). Like, back when I used to play Unreal 2 XMP, I loved doing crazy stuff like doing a komakazee attack on a tank with my buggy and bailing out to shoot a grenade to finish it off, or other silly stuff like trying to get my vehicle to fit through through a door so I can drive it around indoors. Using my enviroment is lots of fun too. I guess anything that is open to creative gamepaly earns bonus points with me. Thinking out of the box is the best way to play a game . Well, thats just my opinion. Also, I like multiplayer. Expecially co-op mode. I think that every game should allow multiple players to join in and have fun playing through the game together. Unfortunately, co-op isn't all that common. *chuckles* I guess the only thing more fun than doing crazy stuff in a game is doing it with friends while taking on the baddies . |

anyone here like sports games...like madden football??? i like that game...in franchise mode you can custom build stadiums, you can even set the prices of the concessions(hotdogs, hamburgers, cokes, etc.)...i tend to do a lot of simulating through the season, i just like manageing teams i guess. ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

I like story line and WOW factor. Its the ability to put together that AWESOME combo, or cause that HUGE explosion that makes a game fun for me. UI is important too. A bad User Interface just sends the game down the drain in a heartbeat. ------------------ The old that is stong does not wither From the ashes a fire shall be woken Renewed shall be blade that was broken |

I fing gameplay is the most importaint thing. There needs to be very well thought out and smooth gameplay in your game. It's best if there is many different stratagies in how you apporach playing the game. |

One word: "polish" It should feel like long hours and countless months were poured into its creation. It should not feel like it was created in a single day. Games that are part of contests (like this forum's one month game) are exempt of course. Gameplay also. Good graphics & sounds help. But good graphics != new graphics. Yeah, the latest eye candy is cool, but I've seen pixel shaded failures, and pixel art wonders . ------------------ Switch Mayhem now available! In games I like the sense of adventure most. To start on a quest in a strange land ya know. Also, if you can create an interesting story with twists and turns, along with characters that the gamer feels for, then I think you have a possible winner. ------------------ |

personaly i don't have specific types of game i go on a game by game basis, though a game with a lot of freedoms sound kinda interesting. It could also be a flop, a lack of story line would be very boring. |

"Of the genre's FPS is probably my least favorite. I pretty much only like playing it multiplayer, and then I have to be in the right mood. RTS is also someting I pretty much only enjoy playing mutliplayer.. computer opponents just aren't a challenge and the only way they can even hope to compete is by AI cheating. Of the MMORPG's the reason I have UO and DAOC as my favorites is that UO had the most emersive game world because of all the detailed little things you could do and you could interact with much more of the world.. you could read or write books.. you could sit on chairs, play chess with friends and so on. DAOC has the best PvP of any MMORPG, again playing against the computer is never a challenge for very long and soon becomes boring and repetative.. playing against people is more fun. RPG's are the only games I really enjoy single player and that is because its more about the story and the characters. You don't need another person to make the competition worth while because its not just about the competition. Key's to RPG's are Good story, Good character, and lots of options for developing and customizing your own character. Nothing annoys me more about RPG's then when they don't let you customize your character enough. " Pretty much how I feel exactly on games. Also that's one major reason why I love UO. So many possibilities. Yet my fav RPG's are, Knights of the Old Republic, Fable, and any FF up to 7. Havent played the ones for the PS2, FPS's I dont get into, Yet I do like both Halo's. I primarily play sports games on my console. Gotta go with the Madden Franchise ------------------ |
