My pal ran across this link and I read it and laughed my *** off.
http://www.redmusic.com/goths/warning.html

Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on it here... if you knew me you'd say that I was one of the furthest things away from a goth (Next to you religious peeps of course).

Not sure if the acronym PARODY is a subtle hint that this is a joke or not. Just thought it'd be fun for you guys to see/comment on.

I ran into a site that said that if you answer 'yes' to 5 or more you're concidered a goth... what's your score lol (11 here)

Let's see . . .

"Wears black clothing."

On occasion.

""Hangs out" with new friends."

yup.

"Watches cable."

Strike me for that also.

"Spends large amounts of time alone."

yup (intrevert)

"Uses a computer or the Internet."

Strike all of us for that!

"Plays video games or role-playing games."

yup

"Reads science fiction or fantasy books."

Especially Star Trek, Star Wars, and LOTR.

"Sleeps too much or too little."

Oh, the joys of college life . . .

"Dances to music."

Even my grandparents do that!

There are some things in here that would worry me, though:

"Takes drugs."

"drinks blood."

"Pursues dangerous cult religions such as WICCA, SATANISM, HINDUISM and BUDDHISM."

"Uses the blood of Christian babies to inscribe pentagrams or other symbols on churches and schools."

"Leaves syringes or other drug paraphernalia around the house."

They don't mean they're Goth, but they are signs that what they're doing is dangerous.

It is a parody, like it says - note the link in "All text on this site was written by Benjamin Covelo, whose site promotes secularism on a regular basis." and the domain name - redmusic.com, which includes the rock music. It's 100% parody, intended to get people's attention.

yea this is pretty obviously a "parody". I find it funny because it is strikingly similar to a list that was actually published by an angry mother's watchdog group against the dangers of role playing games and how to tell if your child might be involved in "role playing"

Yeah I found a different site (Reader's Digest Forum lol) that had the same thing with slightly altered points.

Pursues dangerous cult religions such as WICCA, SATANISM, HINDUISM and BUDDHISM.

was

Pursues dangerous cult religions such as WICCA, SATANISM, SCIENTOLOGY, PHILOSOPHY,HINDUISM and BUDDHISM.

Either way, serious or humorous, its still funny each time I read it.

I guess I'll have to stop going playing Day of Defeat, even though they have a nice server for Christians.

BTW, anbody who plays DoD: The Christian Soldiers server is actually one of the best multiplayer FPS servers I've come across. Very good players play there, and a Christian attitude means that there's no swearing or porn, and those who try get kicked pretty quickly.

Good clean fun, and good luck trying to beat the clan members - they're very skilled players .

Hmm... I'm probably the only person here who "doesn't get it". But I counted about 15 things on the list that are not at all good. I'd say about 35% of the list would have me seriously concerned. But some other things listed were extreemly out of place, and makes me think this is some type of weird joke or something. Like, "Uses a computer or the Internet." or Dances to music."" I mean come on what is that about?

I agree, some of that stuff would really worry me.

It is. It's written by some guy wanting attention. Some guy who thinks it's funny to poke fun at Christianity.

Naw... it's someone who thinks it's funny to poke fun at SOME Christians. Mainly the "Rock and roll is evil!" crowd.

Guys, common!
The whole reason it's funny is the segue between the stupid (Uses the internet) and the extreme (Drinks blood).
The fact that "Stays up late / Drinks Human Blood" is in as one entry sums it up nicely.

Exactly. Though I don't think the word "segue" exactly describes it... maybe a "dichotomy" between the extreme and the normal-behavior-but-stupid-examples?

Don't think I posted this in an attempt to cut down religion this time through. Just that it is apperently connected to the church in some sort of way (Not sure if it was this link or the other similar one I read that the poster claimed it was a message from his(her?) church). Of course its more humorous than serious. If you managed to take anything from that you should concider rethinking your thoughts. The only serious ones in there are ones that you don't need a list to know that there's something wrong with your kid.

If you click over to the Characteristics of the Gothic Subculture page it says, "bisexuality is one of the leading causes of AIDS among straight people."

Edit: If I remember correctly MTV does not promote the Gothic Subculture because Goths don't like rap.

Lol good point, but I'm not a goth and I HATE rap as well as country so I really don't think your beliefs should be categorized based on the music that you listen to.
