ok. i'm from kentucky, and i'm not going to college(i've quit 3 times ). i was wondering what certifications could possibly help me get my foot in the door of the networking, computer repair, or programming fields? i'm not looking for a $80k+ a year job or anything like that. i already have my a+ cetification. i figure i'll be working some factory/sawmill type job to start off with. i figured if i work at factory and build up a reputation there as a hard worker, maybe even work my way up the latter(i know it will take years), if a job in their networking department opens up and i have all the certifications i would have a decent chance of sliding in. any suggestions, thoughts or anything would be greatly appreciated. since i'm currently unemployed(i have applications in), and i'm getting married around the end of may beggining of june i need some kind of steady income. prayers would also be greatly appreciated. from my previous post y'all know i've had several dreams, but i'm trying to look at things realisticly now, so please offer advice if you think you have some that might help.

Hey benny congratulations on the marriage! I didn't graduate either, about 2 years of college. While a college degree is VERY important, if for no other reason than to put it on your resume. Some places won't even give you the time of day without some degree, and many want a BA or BS. But God blessed me with a good career path despite my foul ups.
Here's my path...graduated high school -> started college -> decided I needed a car (really I didn't) -> started working part time at Taco Bell which turned into full time, which turned into all the time -> dropped classed and finally quit full time college.
Ok, that was the BAD, here's the good -> Worked Taco Bell for 2 years, became a shift manager and finally got tired of it and no room to advance - final pay 8/hr. Got a job through a temp agency doing tech support 9/hr. Temp job became permenant - 20k yr. Created very simple little apps on the side to help improve the support center. After 1yr, programming positions became available and I applied for a position. Those silly little apps along with good words from my coworkers got me that job - 34k/yr. Being able to honestly say I had '2 years college working toward a BS in Computer Science' and I planned to continue to take classes toward a degree helped as well. Most tech companies offer some kind of reimbursment for college courses.
My best advise to you is no matter what job you get, always do SOMETHING toward what you REALLY WANT to do. This might be just in your spare time at home. But of course, remember to give God the glory for whatever you get.

in the tech industry in general, experience is more important than degrees, However the problem that without a degree you often can't get to first base (an interview) to even start to prove yourself, however many jobs are found by networking etc, my personal philosophy is i wouldn't want to work for a boss who bases his decisions on a degree rather than real world factors - but that is just me. A degree is good however - but you don't have one, and are in the position , with getting married that you need a job.
I personally don't have any qualification in IT (my university 'tour' was on subject completely non tech (japanese, chinese, linguistics), and i skipped the course for 1st and 2nd year and went straight to 3rd year courses, so though i passed those, i didn't have enough credits for a degree (actually i only passed about half of them, because i left the country a few weeks before final exams to go meet my wife, then work in japan),
However when i got really sick in japan, and thus hadn't earnt all the money i needed to finance supporting my finance (after we married) then get us to our next 'gig' (which was planned to be china), i realised i'd have to find some work in america (to support my wife, and to pay $4000 back to a friend that i had borrowed to get to my job in japan (which would have easily paid it back and more if i hadn't have gotten real sick),
but anyway i had alot of programming experience, but all hobbyist, as well as in the game industry, nothing in business, i didn't know SQL (other than playing a little when a friend was studying it in university) or anything in the business world, but i spent about 3 weeks studying up on the net for the skills needed in the business world, and went to make some dummy (but real) applications etc, that would be my experience) (and i researched the job market to see what skills were in high demand (with a good salary) but had a low number of people (at this time, it was delphi developers - most delphi developers were in europe, not the US),
anyhow i applied for about 2 or 3 jobs online, got an interview for one, where to prove myself i had to make a program there and then, and got my job (just 3 weeks before the wedding, having NO money at that time, at $4000 i owed my friend right away), b ut really the point is God provides
He is our provider - maybe not how we expect (i had expected to be self sufficent easily in japan, and finance my next step, but i had to go through a time of 'i can't do this myself, and just do what i can, and wait and have faith God will come through' - seek first the kingdom of God and all these other things of life , like jobs yada yada, shall be added unto you. Also allow God to make you think outside of the box (the normal box, of get married, get a good job, have kids, buy a house, spend next 30 years paying off a mortgage etc.. an awesome honeymoon for christian couples is a few years on the mission field, it can be a catalyst for an awesome marriage founded on God as the center, where early on, as a couple you learn to live by faith, and put the kingdom first, above our own human desires to build our 'own' life etc, and also live 100% for God, as a team for God (man and wife) is an oppurtunity for great marital emotional intimacy and growth - just food for thought - or more likely prayer.

thanks for the advise. my dream honeymoon would be a missions trip, i've always wanted to go on one of them . though i hate traveling, it's the whle "denying everything i want to get closer to God and reach some lost people" thing that makes it sound so great to me. it's like that song that goes something like "this is the good life, i've lost everything i could ever want or ever dream, but i've found everything i could ever need right here in your arms". i'm thinking about finding some kind of college i can take part time through the mail, or maybe even full time through the mail. the normal university stuff just aint for me. i also don't believe i can travel from country to country because i feel i need to be here, around here is where i think(and i could be so wrong) God is going to use me. i've found out one thing for sure, i am like no other minister here, i don't even know if i'm like any other Christian here. i tend to see things to the extreme, and i definately can't fake anything...like being "happy happy" 24/7, that fake happy. right now i'm on the "waiting for God to hook me up" stage of life. He's already gave me a Christian woman who loves me(she's not perfect, but i'm far from that myself), so i'm sure He's going to provide me a way to provide for her. i don't expect to ever be rich, i don't want to, too much temptation for somebody like me. if i ever get a million dollars(in one lump sum) i'm giving at least half away. thanks once again for the advice guys, it's really helpful.
