I found it a little ironic that my church is opposite to most British churches at Christmas time. In traditional churches over here loads of people come at Christmas and sing carols enthusiastically, as 'part of Christmas' (!) At my church enthusiasm was noticeably lower than during normal services, since it was harder to get meaningful worship out of such twee songs (not impossible, just harder). Quite a few of us seemed quite down on Christmas (no tree, hate carols etc) including our church leader!

I wondered if this is the same in other vibrant, believing churches who celebrate Jesus' life every week?

Nice pic, it was a reasonably serious question though. I expect things a re a bit different in the US (I'm from UK)?

I'm in Southampton, UK. Our church just had our christmas celebration, we call it The Miracle of Christmas. It was awesome, if you look at the words to some of the traditional carols their great. It's easy to get into tradition but you have to remember that your there to worship God, and i do that with everything I have.

That's probably how it should be, although it seems like a bold statement for a church not to do anything special at Christmas - a chance to educate the masses what Christmas is really about to us.

Anyone else?

Well, my church doesn't do anything real special. We have like 4 Christmas Eve services. Then we just keep on trucking. Hmmm, we don't seem to make a bold statement.

i think songs like that one that one, emanuel, or something, have very moving lyrics.

I like christmas songs with lyrics concerning Christ's birth, and having a powerful choir-sung chorus.

those aren't christmas carols. those are songs sung at christmas-time.

how to tell the difference:

1) Is it about Jesus, and his birth?

2) Is it old?

3) Does it have a good beat?^ESC:dd

4) Was it originally in latin, german, or french?

5) Does it use "thee", "thou" and "you" interchangably, and incorrectly?^ESC:dd

and thats all folks!
