Way to go Benny! Everyone has to start somewhere... As for me, I'm hoping to upload my first "game" to here. Its just a simple BlackJack game in the console It may take some time though do to lack of time and some bugs that I am having trouble with. But excellent job mate! |

my first game, if i make one, will prob'ly be something like utopia, earth: 2025, raging universe...the online multiplayer rts type with no graphics. but that's later on. i'd like to check out the blackjack game. and what's the story line for your game arch? ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

benny... start out with something simple. an online multiplayer is too grand for a first game. start just making games that are simple. work your way up. you'll learn the skills necessary for making good games. um, my plot line is hmmm...let me take the excerpt from the game. mind you, I wrote this in... jr. high. lol.

keep in mind, no graphics involved, at least nothing harder than puting images in an html document. i'm sure i'll make simple games first, but i mean more of my first game that people might actually play for more than 10 minutes then delete it. i'm getting more interested in programming as i go along. ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

*update* i've figured out how to do something besides integers...change the variable declaration from "integer" to "currency"...duh. i've also figured out how to do multiplication and division, and it's actually quicker and simpler than i had it before. anywho... ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

char... long... learn them well. one programmer got 17 years of criminal negligence because he used an "int" instead of "long" in his program. no joke. ------------------ |

that's messed up. criminal negligance over a program. remind me to never get a government job. ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

arrgh, they should have put away the dimwit project manager / risk analyser that choose to choose a language/enviroment where such a small error could produce such drastic results, without proper testing etc well actually put away the Tester, everybody knows Testers are the root of all evil ------------------ |

blah! as i begin to make it more useful i'm realizing it's going to take me a while to finish it. i'm trying to figure out how to make it do something. like, when clicking "+" finishing the last command, clearing the textbox, and setting it up to add the number the user is fixing to put it. right now i can't think strait so i'm going to wait until later, going on a lack of sleep. anywho... ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

quote: I've been thinking of doing a game like this too. I've played Utopia a little and I'm reading a book PHP Game Programming. It guides you through putting together a game like this, and learning some PHP, mysql database, and includes a fully sourced sample game called Kiddy Kartel, where your a kid and you set up your neighborhood and compete against other kids and their neighborhoods by mowing lawns, selling lemonade and baking cookies (in simple bake ovens). Then you can hire bullies and paperboys to steal and sabatoge the other neighborhoods. Its a funny game idea, but original. I would like to do a christian turned based game, like Utopia, Kings of Chaos, etc.. but so far I haven't been inspired with a good game idea yet. If you got any ideas let me know. |

you could have it set up like a war game. instead of being a military leader you're a missionary leader. your goal would be to organize sources and stuff to evangelize. like training evangelist, missionaries, pastors, teachers and that sort of thing instead of different military units, and each have their unique gifts. building hospitals, churches, schools, houses, instead of the typical kind of buildings in other games. your population would be the amount of people converted, and the conversion rate would take place of the birth rate. as for the research i'm not sure what to put there. it could be in strict biblical knowledge/training(quicker training of units), witnessing techniques(higher conversion rate), and some other stuff. that's all i got for now. hope it's some help. ------------------ www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia |

My first game, in early development, can be found here. Read the readme.txt for controls, and if anyone has a friend they could try the split-screen with I'd love to hear your impressions. [This message has been edited by d000hg (edited September 21, 2004).] |
