i was wondering if anyone knew where to get an adapter to hook a modem up to a cellphone, and what kind of cellphone you might need. my dad's looking so him and mom can hook up to the internet when they're out traveling in their rv. thanks.

everybody has to own a cellphone nowadays and I mean EVERYBODY

2 girls aged 12 walking down the road, oh yeah, each one has a cellphone and talking on 'em too

on the train, on the bus - WHEREVER we love our cellphones don't we? they are a comfort item/STATUS more than communication though, isn't that the truth? how much is your bill for texting every month? my opinion: pretty sad

hehe nice one Benny

I actually bought a BT "EasyReach" pager a few years back

it costs 50p - £1 to send a message to my pager, so people (like my brother) complain like mad that it is too expensive to page me, but my missus uses it all the time to get hold of me

anyway - I got 3 messages lately from 02 announcing that they are ditching the pager service

even the 50p - £1 charge per message is still not enough for them, from 31st DEC I can just chuck my pager away, the support for it is over

so? what I do then?

ummm...get a laptop with an endless power supply and hope you can get a wireless connection and have aim or msn messenger or icq running all the time...but since batteries do die, and not many connections exist like that...prob'ly just gonna have to deal with it...?

bennythebear,

Some cell phone companies, such as T-Mobile, offer wireless Internet service which can be used with a computer. You need a data cable made for the particular model of cell phone. I bought one on ebay for about 10 dollars. On ebay, click on Cell Phones, then Data Cables, and you'll see a bunch of them for sale. The wireless Internet service is 56k dialup speed, but some companies have an "accelerator" that will speed up a lot of the browsing. A better alternative probably is using free wireless Hot Spots (see wififreespot.com) or T-Mobile's paid wireless Hot Spot service. The speeds will be much faster, and there is less "technical hassle" trying to use a cell phone as a modem.

God bless,

Out of curiosity, how many people use their cell phone just to talk or to text other people? I personally use like 5 minutes a month. I call and say "On my way, bye" So my battery lasts for weeks. Anybody else?
God Bless,
Max

I don't have a cell, either. Got wireless/LAN access all over K-State anyways and a laptop, so insant messaging has been enough.

I thought cell phones were all up at about £80 or £90, but I was told by a pal of mine that they are doing basic mobiles for a bargain £30 in WOOLWORTHS but the cheapest I saw there was £40
