Just joined this site, wanted to say hi. Got told there was a Christian Dev site from a post on GameDev.net, thought I'd check it out. On first impressions it seems a wierd combination, but what's it like for people who use it in terms of getting many helpful replies to problems? Is every member here a Christian?
PS why when you edit your profile is your password shown, not disguised by asterisks etc? Leaves a little to be desired... [This message has been edited by d000hg (edited July 27, 2004).] |

There aren't a lot of technical questions, but there are pretty much always good answers or someone who can point you in the right direction. We're a good bunch, and i don't believe its weird. Maybe it's weird that secular programmers get together as well? Anyways take a look around, any questions just ask! --D-SIPL ------------------

Welcome d000hg!!!!
quote: I don't think it's a wierd combination. We don't have the huge numbers of participants that places like gamedev have, so sometimes getting helpful replies isn't as easy. But there are quite a few of us that help whenever we can, and the more people we get involved here, the better it will be.
quote: Probably not, nor is it a requirement - everyone is welcome. Most are though.
quote: I don't really know what it is either, but it looks pretty good for those new to programming who want to see results quickly. The guy who started this site also created blitzcoder.com so there's always been some overlap of discussion and members. Myself, I'm a C/C++ guy. |

um.. Blitzbasic is some form of basic, better for gaming. i think. don't know really. I did, however, forget C/C++. ------------------ |

quote:It just seemed a bit surprising there were enough Christian programmers who knew each other! How do people find this site - I just happened to read one of the many threads on God at GameDev (always a good possibility of expounding the Gospel IMO) and saw the link. I'll try and remember to mention it myself in future in the odd 'Who here is a Christian' thread we get there too. |

I originally found this site a few years back simply by googling for Christian software resources. BTW, in case it isn't obvious: although game programming often becomes the dominant genre here, this site's focus is much larger and not just limited to game programming. General app programming, web development, etc. are also part of this site, even though they don't get the traffic I wish they did. |

quote: Not a bad way to describe it, but 'better for gaming' probably doesn't do it justice as it's 'HEAPS' better for making games! It's also semi-object orientated, but without being as complex as C++. It comes in three varities: 2D, 3D, and Plus. The plus is more windows application focused. The benefit of something like Blitz is that you aren't constrained as much as you are when using something like GameMaker, and don't need a zillion game libraries to handle all the basics (like C), as they are built in as BASIC commands. Having said all that, sounds like d000hg is more of a C++ dude: More power to ya mate, but too much effort for hacks like me Welcome! |
