K... I just want to take this time to say how much I hate spyware. I WANT IT TO DIE! DIE, I say! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE! okay. I'm better now. ------------------ |

I second Opera, if you don't mind the ads. I also have been *really* liking Firefox - it's great now, and when it gets out of pre-1.0 state, it's going to be fantastic. |

Opera is well worth the modest registration fee. I never got into any of the Mozilla based browsers. I can't fathom installing an open source browser on my system. An open source browser meets my personal definition of a Trojan. |

I can't fathom spending $30 just to get rid of a few ads, especially when there are so many free alternatives. Avant is also a popular browser, but I have not tried it myself. And Miami Brice, you must have an interesting definition of a Trojan. |

ArchAngel, I forgot to mention: I recommend Ad-aware for spyware detection/removal. Once a week I run the updater and do a scan, and it does a great job. |

Spybot-Search & Destroy [ http://www.safer-networking.org/ ] is another good utility to prevent unwanted hijacking of your browser. Nonetheless, nothing is bulletproof. Spyware and such continue to improve, just like hackers and such do. One day you are safe, and the next you aren't...like all these type of packages you have to maintain that update/upgrade. A few tips for XP users: *** > Most all spyware/adware/etc includes at least one (understatement) Registry setting. Probably all spyware/adware/etc have aliases and might travel with other nasties. When looking for a particular file on your system, take note of the folder name. If you have to edit your Registry, search for all the known names - and take note while in your Registry as you can sometimes learn more about the location of the nasties. Registry editing is like handling your grandmother's Chinaware - do it *very carefully*. Hope you have success! edit: added URL for Spybot :P [This message has been edited by nfektious (edited April 29, 2004).] |

I second Firefox. No one should ever have to pay for a web browser, or be forced to view ads from it. Firefox has some pretty yummy extensions that are very useful for web developers, btw. Oh yeah, and Ad-aware is a'ight. †Caleb† ------------------ |

quote:This is a question, not a flame. Have they managed to get the kinks out of the Mozilla browsers? I haven't tried any in about a year, but the last ones I tried were horribly slow and the popup stoppers didn't stop popups. |

I didn't realize there were some Firefox/Opera users here. Can I get some feedback on this site - http://www.cgdc.org - and how it displays in your browser please? I heard of one report that it didn't work in Firefox - but that is unsubstantiated. Not sure how it is in Opera. Any other browser users are free to respond as well. Thanks all Oh, and while you are at it, can you give me some feedback on this site - http://www.nullgames.com - too? Thanks again. yeah, I used Spybot. um.. I think that's why Iexplorer's not working. after a clean... it just stopped working. so, out of my frustration, I took it off. I tried turning off some spyware using the processes tab in the Task manager.. but they just came back. hmm.. I might just check out FireFox. and Ad-aware. thanks. ------------------ |

quote: I'd love to hear this definition!
quote: Yes, especially with Firefox - Firefox gets rid of all the bloat that was in Mozilla. Firefox is sleek, clean, and modular. I've been using it many months, and it is excellent. Firefox is a seperate download than Mozilla, BTW.
quote: It's IE with a few things tacked on. Other than MDI (and even then, I prefer tabs over MDI anyways), it doesn't offer anything more than other browsers. All that stuff can be done with Opera or Firefox with a few plugins.
quote: It's made in Flash, so it works in any browser with Flash installed. And yes, Flash is available for Mozilla and Firefox - it works fine on my computer, I use Firefox. BTW, that's the last time I'll ever go to your website again - I'm a firm believer in not using Flash as a way to make entire webpages. In fact, many people disable Flash so they don't have to deal with Flash banner ads. So anybody (including IE users) might not be able to see it if they have Flash disabled! Nullgames seems to work - but I can't seem to access the archives . I use Spybot S&D to get rid of ad/spyware. But with Firefox, I don't really get any ad/spyware . ------------------ Switch Mayhem now available! Get it here [This message has been edited by CobraA1 (edited April 30, 2004).] |

quote: If it isn't a Flash ad it is a java/javascript/html popup of some sort. I understand your point tho, but that is sorta like throwing the baby out with the bathwater isn't it? Anyway, the CGDC site was in the process of being redesigned but not sure what happened there. Thanks for checking it for me...and the nullgames site too. (Oh, btw, archives aren't available because the site just went online...so, no archives yet ) God bless, ------------------ |

quote: True, but every bit helps.
quote: Most people don't play Flash games or use Flash apps anyways, so it usually doesn't matter to them. Note that I have Flash enabled - I'm talking about other people here! Your Firefox complaint was probably from somebody who didn't have Flash for Mozilla/Firefox installed.

Took five minutes of using it to convince me to permanently switch to Firefox. Fast as can be and popups are actually blocked, Mozilla finally got it right |
CobraA1 Member Posts: 926 From: MN Registered: 02-19-2001 |
Yeah, Firefox was a rewrite, with the basis being to have a minimalist browser supported by plugins. If you want some of your features from Opera back, such as mouse gestures, go look at the plugins. While you're at it, check out the "Tabbrowser Extentions" plugin also. Very good . ------------------ Switch Mayhem now available! Get it here |

I run spyware now and then (should probably automate it). I've been using CrazyBrowser which lets you do different sites like a filing tab. I believe each tab is really I.E. though but it does have built-in poptart blocking. The cool feature if you can set up groups of web pages and load them all by just selecting a group. I was hoping that help me keep up on all the forums for Christian Games but there are too many! God bless, ------------------ |

Thunderbird is pretty good, i use it one of my linux boxes. Firefox rox, also use that on all of my Linux boxes, and i must say, that with every update it gets quicker and better. It had it's teething problems but then what program doesn't. We all know to well what company does this all to often! --D-SIPL ------------------
