I urge everyone to take 30 minutes or so to listen to this message...it's really amazing. The second half is a really good perspective on violence in entertainment.

Can you give some details about who is giving this message (or what org is sponsoring it), and the basic jist? I don't usually spend 30 minutes on random stuff off the internet without at least knowing something about it first.

Sorry about being a bit vague, BrianT. The speaker is Chip Ingram, a great pastor who not only heads up a church but does a radio show called Living on the Edge, which daily deals with addressing really hardcore issues that apply directly to our lives (especially overcoming mediocrity). His stuff really cuts through all the junk we tend to build up around ourselves, and has really made me think twice about what it means to be a Christian in (but not of) this world today.

[EDIT]Oops, forgot to mention the basic gist. The first part is about spending time with God. The second part is about how sin existing in our life for a long time becomes undetectable by us (plus a no-nonsense look at the "Would you do this if Jesus was next to you?" question in relation to violence in entertainment).[/EDIT]

I would say it's a definite good listen (looks like D-SIPL agrees ).

[EDIT2]Here is a list of stations and times where Living on the Edge is broadcast. I'd even encourage everyone to try and listen to it on your local station daily. It's that good [/EDIT2]

he's a persuasive speaker, the intro was good too but the "alarm clock" thing was totally lost on me, preaching to the converted there, but - I know for a fact - the subject is totally valid - so I'm not putting a downer on it
hah! not a word about chess

Thanks for listening, chiefy! I think the alarm clock is just a way to make sure we all develop the right habits with spending time with God at an appropriate time and for an appropriate amount of time each day. Most of his "advice" was used as allegories to household work (i.e. "take out the trash"; another one in his second message was "do your own dishes," which obviously didn't mean exactly that--though it wouldn't be a bad thing ).
