ok. i was wondering if anyone knew any good books or other resources(websites etc.) that would help me out with linux. everything from complete newbie stuff to advanced networking stuff. i also want something that explains the commands for i believe it's the bash shell. such as how to install new programs/games, add/remove files, just about anything. i may able to do tweak just about anything in windows, but i have almost no knowledge on linux. i can install redhat and play some games on it and that's about the extent of my skill . any help would be welcome. |

Ok what i would suggest is that you install Gentoo Linux. They have a really good community, and installing software, and keeping things up to date is a breeze. For example if i want to install Mozilla Firefox, i would simply open up a bash shell and type: emerge mozilla-firefox then sit back and relax whilst it installs and configures it. And trust me installing Gentoo, you will learn a lot of networking stuff in Linux, and will be very familiar with the commands by the end. Also there community forums are amazing, everytime i ran into problems, i searched the forums and it was fixed within 10 minutes. Other then that try http://linux.org.mt/article/terminal for bash commands. And for Linux tutorials go to http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/. hope that helps, if you have any problems, post them in this thread and i'll try to help. --D-SIPL ps. if you do decide to go with Gentoo, i would suggest you install the stage2 tarball. ------------------
